The Last Ashes
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. They came after the scorched, far-off corners of the world could no longer sustain them. The Denkai had heard rumors of them for hundreds of years, but they lived only in myths and served as the monsters of stories told to children to get them to behave.

Immortal
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Before they came, the Valley was a little town called Maisteek. For decades, the entire continent of Ackrland was overrun by dragons invading and imprisoning humankind. Clutches of the beasts would grow their hordes of prisoners and riches from the lands they ravaged. They had little opposition. Even the strongest of mortals could do almost nothing to stop an entire clutch of dragons from taking whatever they wished.

The Silver Flame
"There weren't always dragons in the Valley." the older elf begins as worry lines crease his forehead. "The Valley once belonged to the Elves until the humans settled the other side and drove away nature's purity. They can not help it but their mundane methods are corrosive to nature's magic. When nature withdrew so did the Elves save for a few foolishly bent on encouraging them to leave. Beg them to leave even before they draw the attention of something far worse."

MOTHER OF DRAGONS
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. Indeed It wasn’t long ago the Dragon was just a fiction crafted by the old world storytellers to inspire bravery and faith in the hearts of their children. To the adults of the new era, it was a far-fetched fable, borne of our wildest dreams. That dear old ideology would change forever and become the fable after a rogue asteroid unexpectedly made contact with Earth's atmosphere.

The Light of Lightning Bugs
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Maybe if you are big, like really big, like I'm talking like my dad big, or my mom big, or teacher, or even big like my big sister big, cause she's really big now, maybe you've become too big to see the dragons. I didn't always see them, until one evening, while playing in the yard after dinner, I saw them in the valley.

The Anxious Hero, Chapter 5
Content warning: The fact that this story features an under-18 protagonist does not mean that it is necessarily suitable for younger kids. It contains strong profanity, sexual humor, significant violence, and depictions of bigotry by unlikable characters.

The Chant
"There weren't always dragons in the Valley. There weren't always dragons in the Valley! There weren't always dragons in the Valley!" With each repetition the words gained pace, first stated slowly, methodically, three times, then again, three times, faster, then the drum began to beat, the repetitions became a chant, over and over. The chant was issued in the high language, completely forgotten, besides the chant, 'Oosen da Ragunten oo Nadallah'. There weren't always dragons in the Valley.
