The Absence of Silence
There weren't always dragons in the valley. It used to be peaceful. Oh, how Kieran missed those days. He used to take walks in the thick fog on particularly cold mornings. He would find a decent rock to sit on and just listen to the air. He used to be able to smell the dew, to sense the slow rhythmic breathing of every tree. He could feel every passing wisp of mist that came his way.

Dragonslayers
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. The Bulwark had held for as long as the people had remembered. Reshavit was a distant kingdom, bordering the wildlands where those loathsome beasts had squatted since the Raging, drawn to the scent of gold and tender flesh as such things are wont to be. But this has changed with their breaching of the walls, and we must move with all haste to seal it.

My Dragon
There weren't always dragons in the valley. I remember a time when they were myths and stories I was told as a young girl. About the ruthlessness of the beasts, never get close enough to look one in the eye they said. Of course those were just stories, right? Wrong. I remember the day I first saw one as clear as if it was happening to me now. Running through a field of purple and orange lilacs, my long brown braid blowing in the wind behind me. I was only fifteen years old, not yet working in our small town. Smiling as the sun warmed my face. Until a shadow blocked the sun.

The Quest for Salusar
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. But one thing one was for certain: the children weren't allowed to go there. The elders warned us that the dragons were not friendly to our kind, and that venturing into the valley on our own would lead to dire consequences.

The Grey Siren
There had not always been dragons in the valley. But that was because most people did not understand what dragons were. As I staggered through the noisy camp I wondered whether Karrigan had understood the truth. It was doubtful, because if he did know, then this whole affair of poisoning me made him a colossal fool.

The Core of Love and Lies
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. Many are too young to remember living there, and those born after the evacuation never knew it at all. Parents, grandparents, and great grandparents keep the stories alive, stories from the times before the mountain erupted and the dragons emerged.
