The Stains of Memory
Prologue The city of Aartan was silent as the full moon crested over the mountains. The tiered sea of moonlit rooftops was webbed by the darkness of the city's winding streets and alleyways, like a sheet of ice beginning to crack under the strain of a man too heavy. It was all quite serene to Henri, who enjoyed his view of the Avaran Capital from his cell in the Flumontre de Aartan.

Malenda
And there he was - a bare beast with taloned, varmint hands clawing at this young girl. Why, she was only 3 years of age. Her folds of fat, waiting to become longer limbs. Her teeth longing for a home in the crevices of that child's mouth, impatiently hoping to some day learn the word: Help.

The War of Aeternum Nivis
Thundering roars and cries of bloodshed echoed against the snow-covered mountains of Aeternum Nivis. For years, the frost dragons of Nix Alis and the humans of Nix Venae feuded through snow and storm. The Nix Alis were returning from their latest retaliation to a Nix Venae raid of the Northern mountainside. Their azure scales with streams of silver sparkled brightly as they flew under the moon’s glow. Their massive, opal wings ached, and their throats were scratchy. It would take some time for their frost breath to recover before the next ambush.

the monkey's wedding
In a gust of wild wind, the gecko on my hand had transformed into my Sweetie, with her grey scales morphing into that teal tail, indigo coat and violet eyes, she shifted into her dragon's suit before me and swept us away in a static spark, disguised as a fly to the average human eye.

Of Blood
The child offered for sacrifice had arrived promptly in the forest clearing and faced the dragon who had come to retrieve him with glazed eyes that betrayed no emotion. The dragon itself looked at the child, who could have been no more than 7 years old, and smiled warmly. He bowed his head, eyes closed and spoke in a voice that shook the ground between the two.

Of Smoke and Flame
The winds blew through the branches of the trees in the Blackwood Forest, their song soft and lilting. Drying leaves crunched beneath her feet as she slowly walked, keeping a watchful eye on her surroundings. The Blackwood Forest was unsafe for humans, and though she carried the blood of dragons in her veins, these woods were dangerous for her as well. The soft glow of dawn peaked through the trees, illuminating her path to the Grove of the Keepers. In recent events, more souls came to pass than was expected, and as queen, it was her duty to understand the issues at hand. “Majesty, I trust your stroll was pleasant?” Rygar, an aging reed of a man who stood against the tall pine marking the entrance to the grove, bowed in greeting. “The birdsong will be here soon, Rygar. And with it, another parting of souls. Tell me, has there been much need for aid?” Pushing himself off the tree, the Keeper moved to walk beside her. “The numbers grow steadily, and it is quite clear that something is happening. But the cause is what I am not so sure of. There may be some discord in the south, as many of the souls that come to pass are either human or Fey.” She nodded.

The Man in the Black Coat
It was getting late on Sunday, and Jacob Waknosky had been working since eight. His boss had called him in on his day off because another employee was sick. It was against the law for Jacob to say no to his boss because enough pro-capitalist extremists had gotten elected to office to make what they called 'pro business' laws. This made it very difficult to be an employee, but businesses were thriving. The government made it illegal not to have a job, so everybody worked, even those with severe disability’s. Have you ever seen somebody with no arms try to mine for coal with a pickaxe in his mouth? Jacob had, and it sickened him. To make matters worse, they had converted everything to solar a decade prior, making coal obsolete.

A millennia and one
It was several millennia back when the world opened their eyes to the possibilities beyond reasoning. They saw colors never before seen, they heard sounds that have never been heard before, and even felt new emotions that were thought to never be possible. With the previous shroud of ignorance removed from our eyes, a new looming bleak existence creeped over our heads.
