Supers
Saturday 23rd November, Story #328/366
This is humanity's error. Never put all your hope in one person, or one class. Don't assume any group is innocent, or better. All are fallible.
Do you think us happy? The world might look like paradise now, but I don't know if what I'm seeing is even real! Or if reality is being bent around me. Or maybe my mind is being pressed one way or another. Talk about your headfuck.
We grub in the dirt, working to maintain their lifestyle, while they squander their abilities on whims and trifles.
Supers. Ugh. They think themselves gods. Could gods be so corrupt? Maybe. They, too, can do whatever they want. Without consequence.
Some still see them as saviours, like I used to. Catching bad guys. Giving us all hope. That we could be better. The world could be better.
It was nothing to them to take control, establish a regime with themselves firmly at the top. Hardly anyone dared dissent, and those who did were made brutal examples.
A few of us resist, as pointless as it is. We're sure to lose. What hope do we have against them after all? Sometimes I catch myself thinking, would it really be so bad to submit? To relapse into ignorance. I get why some can't, or won't. If their loved ones have been, not just killed by these tyrants, but decimated. Why do I resist, though? It's hard to remember. Is that my thought or...?
We are a network of ordinary people. Human, we say. Subhuman, they say. We dream of freedom. A hopeless dream. Some don't even know what that's like. Others have a rose-tinted perspective. Freedom comes at a price. Not just the fight to win it, but the daily rent paid by those free to starve and die when the choke-hold of control, is loosed.... And with it, its twin, Protection.
The ones who realise this, fight against us. To uphold the "men" who have their boots on our necks. What's the point, they say, in fighting so hard only to be worse off after all? Just to live in a world without such wondrous beings? They are better, so why shouldn't they be cast higher?

Clever and intriguing food for thought, LC.
Your words definitely convey the despair of the situation. While protection is a valued thing, it needs balance. Protection isn't worth it when there is too much control and little freedom, which all humans need and have a right to. It's like an abusive home. Sure, the abusive parents may feed you and protect you from the elements, but would you live long enough to see the day when you become a person of your own? Great story!
What about superego power lol
Cleverly worded, we are able to read this two ways. Is it worth making a stand or better to accept the faults.
That rose tinted perspective is soooo real! Loved your story!
Wonderful, LC. I would love to see more around this. I feel this could become extremely deep.
The only super I see is in their egos.
Never to understand the struggle of another. Another reason why I struggle not becoming a hermit
It's interesting that so many seem to have leapt to a non-fiction, political interpretation of this story. Nevertheless, well done!
It's nice to see there are some that are thinking like me. In the upcoming administration if you are not a billionaire you don't deserve a seat at the table.
Benevolent tyrants indeed! Excellent story, LC!
There are subtle nuances and soft innuendo in this applicable to world socio-political circumstances. Spin the spinner for any jurisdiction and...kinda scary. There is truth in "Absolute power...it corrupts absolutely." That was an overwhelming thought that this made me think.
I feel this is describing politicians. Excellent work.
Chilling, LC! Made me think of our billionaires and oligarchs who live like malevolent Gods.
