I watched as she ran and they begin closing in. She couldn’t get away as her path only led to the sea.

I watched her run fast and weave through the maze of trees. Closer and closer she etched to the sea. I await her demise.

Suddenly she jumps and midair, a beautiful melody flows from her lips, and scales start to appear colorfully cascading from her abdomen around her feet.

They’re to far to witness the sight before them, but I watched as this beautiful creature emerge from legs to tail. I must meet her.

I searched and searched but had no such luck. But why would I? The waters are so vast and she could be long gone after 7 long years of search.

My name is Adam. I am an explorer. I happened to be exploring in the woods one day when I watched the actions take place.

Everyday for seven years, I sat at seas edge, waiting for her return. No such luck.

Today is the exact day I saw her, but I am starting to feel like I made her up in my mind all those years ago. I sat in the quiet of the woods edging the sea, hoping for something to emerge, slowly starting to give up.

Then I heard it. That beautiful melody that I swore never to lose memory of. Then she appeared, slowly emerging from the waters, as the beautifully colored scales peel back and reveals a beautiful set of legs.

Excuse me. She jumps in shear terror. Please, I reassured her, I have been searching for you for seven years.

Your melody plays in my head daily and I can’t forget the beauty you possess, what is your name?

Amira she states and it sounded so angelic being released from her lips.

I am Adam and I am an explorer. And I am intrigued by your beauty and mystery.

She starts to fidget and I watch as the horror crosses her face.

I quickly reassured her that I did not want to harm her and instead wanted to know more about her.

It came out as a quiet whisper, You’d have to submerge.

At this point, I was willing to do anything. I’d searched for years, and on the seventh year she’s reappeared. Good luck I hope.

I tell Amira, yes, I would submerge. A quick flash of worry crosses her face, then she tells me, “Once you’re submerged, there is no coming back.”

I was ready and I assured her I had nothing to come back to.

She takes her finger and run them across the base of her bosom, leaving a sticky looking cream over her fingers.

Then she wipes it across my nose, behind my ears, and on my forehead.

She tells me to get undressed and place my things in a place sacred and unknown. I do so with haste.

Amira sings her melody that had been playing feverishly through my head for seven years.

She sings and scales start to cascade down my body as well as hers. She tells me to jump as she dives beautifully into the sea.

I jump and I turn and see I have a full scaled tail now, covered in an array of different colors.

My fingers touch the sea, and I as my hand start to disappear beneath, I am yanked midair by a net. Explorers!

I see Amira, hiding. submerge. I heard little whispers urgently telling me to submerge.

A whip of my tail cuts through the net as I graciously submerged in the sea.

Amira grabs my face. Her beauty is now that of foreign nature. She laughs maniacally and grabs my face to pull me down further and further beneath the sea.

I am scared but in awe as we past the many creatures below in the sea. Another world of fins open up as I start to see the array of different colored tails.

I’d been submerged and there was no turning back. This would be my life forever.

Then I saw Amira. A light surrounded her. Her tail slowly starts to vanish underwater. She’s not even singing the melody.

Her eyes find mines. She says thank you Adam. I watch as she’s carried through the waters back to the very seaside now with legs.

I realized then, she wanted to be free and I was her ticket to freedom. Now I am submerged.

Seven years, that’s how long. For seven years, I have sat awaiting that merman to resurface.

My name is David and seven years ago, I almost caught a merman.
