Stirring the boiling pot of clam chowder, she gave it a small taste test before reaching for the spice cabinet.

Slamming the door open, her son came barging in, "Mom! Mom! It's Emmanuel! We've got to help him, Mom!"

Running over to him, she sat him in the chair. Looking at his leg, she noticed that he was missing his left foot.

Tears in her eyes and with a shaky voice she asked, "What happened?"

"We were swimming down by the loch, when it grabbed us. It stuck Emmanuel to its back."

"What was it?"

"A kelpy."
