Take a moment to look around your city, perhaps at the cars passing by or the buildings around you. Can you pinpoint any material in particular which is used frequently? Aluminum? Steel? Concrete?

By Drew Hays on Unsplash

My name is Dr. Mark 'E' and I have discovered a material that can literally shape our world as we know it. It could mean food for millions of people who might otherwise die from starvation due to droughts or wars. It could also mean the end of poverty and human trafficking. It can make our cities look beautiful instead of dirty, with sparkling silver skyscrapers that are stronger than steel and 100 percent recyclable. Okay, so it wouldn't solve all of society's problems, but as any inventor will tell you - or at least they should - the first step is always the hardest to take.

This material is made of two elements, silver and titanium. These are both found in abundance on earth and can easily be mined, shaped into sheets, sawed into rods or rolled around an axle to make any number of products. They would last for hundreds of years, if not longer. It took me another year before my invention could hold up an elephant-sized weight in a small shed with no other supports than its own walls. I've tried it myself.

By that time, the US government confiscated all my research materials for national security purposes (it's always the same excuse - the Soviets are going to attack us any day now) and they also forced me to sign a contract that said that I will not accept any more public funding because I would be a threat to national security. That was not true, but I had no choice. And please do not ask me for the details of my invention because I am not allowed to release them.

If I do, the federal government would throw me in jail for espionage or treason.

That is why I need your help. My invention was banned by the government and without its support, my research has been paused for years now. Everything I have tried to do in the past decade has failed to move me forward. All the materials that were confiscated by the US military are now hidden from me, so I cannot work on this project any longer.

I'm out of ideas and options at this point and if something does not change soon, I will never finish my invention or see it implemented into our society.

It feels like someone just stole a year of my life right from under my nose as I watched helplessly while some goon sauntered over and took it away with him without a second thought about what went into it all.

I need my project to continue. Even though the government has banned it, perhaps there are others who would take interest in what I have done so far and could find a way to complete this work or just make enough money from it to live on.

I spent all my life savings on trying to make this invention work, so now I am penniless and have nowhere else to turn.

The last thing I want to mention is that my invention can be made at home. It is simple and inexpensive to produce with little effort but it takes longer than you might think.

The Secret Read:

Once you have two ingots of silver and titanium you will need to connect them together while avoiding direct contact between them since they are opposite elements that repel one another. This process is not easy and even if someone else manages to succeed, their invention will still deteriorate after some time so it's better not to waste your time on this method. Pressing the metal sheets together until they fuse is much easier but will also take an hour or more depending on what pressure is applied. The end result, however, will be comparable to an ingot of the same size and quality as in my research facility, or even better.

By Michael Dziedzic on Unsplash

This metal ingot is undetectable to the naked eye, it looks and melts like real silver. It is very malleable but not as much as actual silver. After you have made your ingot, you will need to "process" it in a closed container (such as a pot or tub) for several hours in order to harden the surface so that it will maintain its shape when carved into something useful such as a spoon.

The last thing I want to mention is that my invention can be made at home. It is simple and inexpensive to produce with little effort but it takes longer than you might think. After you've fused these two elements together there are only three ways of removing them from one another without destroying them completely - melting them into a liquid that can slip through the thin gap between them, dissolving their bond with an acid, or powdering them through a powerful magnet.

Unfortunately, none of these methods is readily available to civilians, so you will not be able to duplicate this research if you do not have access to the equipment needed.

The secret here is that I used a setup that made it seem like my research was done with nuclear materials, but in reality there were no radioactive elements involved. This was just a decoy so that nobody would try to steal or replicate my work because they believed it was linked to the atomic bomb program and possibly even a superweapon of some sort. The truth is I never worked on anything more complicated than common silver, titanium and plastic containers full of chemicals.

The Federal Government banned my invention under the guise that its implementation could destabilize our national security and somehow give our enemies an edge over us if they got into a war with us. But the truth is that they banned it because I refused to sell my invention to them and I spent most of my money trying to make it work so the government has no interest in funding something that won't benefit their research in any way.

The special ingredient is a powerful magnet that can attract the silver spoon to it from any direction. This does not seem like much, but you should be able to see how this could be useful in covert operations or even for pointless amusement.

From what I've seen on TV, most people don't know this trick but they will never suspect that your spoon is magnetic and may think you're cheating when you pick up objects with it because it looks so ordinary. The best part about a spoon that has been made with my recipe is that if anyone tries to check its authenticity with their own magnet, all they'll find is a regular piece of metal since there's nothing else present in the substance besides titanium and silver - no extra chemicals or additives. It's a completely non-detectable solution for anyone who does not know what they are looking for.

By Raul Angel on Unsplash

This is not the only use of my spoon, however. Because it can attract other metals it makes an excellent item to use in locks and traps since you can make the key magnetically lock to the spoon. I'm sure you can imagine how many other uses this item could have in espionage and in everyday life!

The most important ingredient of this recipe is not so much a specific chemical compound that you need to have for the spell as it is an atmosphere or mindset, something that you can only create with a strong belief in your own mind. I'm sure that there will be countless people who read my paper and go through all the steps listed above, but they will fail because they don't believe in themselves enough to make this work!

The reason this recipe works in the first place is because you must be able to look at the spoon as a potent symbol and not just a piece of titanium and silver. In my research I tried to capture true magic with science, something that has never been done before. This is why it's important to believe in your ability to create whatever you want if you have the knowledge and the resolve to do so. If you can't believe it, then your spoon will never be as powerful as it could be otherwise.

For those of you who are still reading this paper, I must add that my research was never fully funded by outside sources so there are holes in my understanding of how the spoon became magic. I used up all my own money that I earned from working at a local science center, so I had to do most of the work in my spare time and skip out on critical research phases due to lack of funding. The results were shocking though - one spoon started glowing when it was against certain surfaces!

By Josh Riemer on Unsplash

This glow was much like energy given off by a neutron star - it was very bright and warm to the touch. The last time I tried my method with silver, it only kept glowing until all of the spoon had melted away. It was a shame because there were still so many things that I wanted to try out!

I think if anyone managed to recreate my results and use them for their own inventions, they could revolutionize the entire world. I know I've said it many times before, but believe in yourself, see yourself as a powerful person who can make magic with science if he tries hard enough. Let your spoon be the best tool you'll ever have!

On another note: I've been told that there's a man who is taking credit for my work and claiming to know what he's talking about but has little understanding of the spoon. I don't really want to name names in this paper because I have no proof, but it is important for me to clear up some misconceptions about how my process works.

By Loes ten Den on Unsplash

This man is claiming that the reason behind my spoon's magical properties comes from its shape. He thinks that there are specific angles and curves in the material that must all be equal for it to work; I can assure you with all certainty that he is wrong! The only things responsible for any form of magic or energy produced by my spoon are the materials and my belief. There is no such thing as an "optimal design" - only one that works, and even then it's not always the same.

The man I'm talking about also claims he has successfully reproduced my spoon, when all he has done is melting titanium and silver together in a mass. If you're reading this, don't believe him. My spoon may only be described as "magical" because of its properties; it certainly doesn't have any form of intelligence or sentience.

By Aditya Saxena on Unsplash

It's not just some kind of "magic powder" that can be mixed together with silver. Silver is an excellent conductor of energy, and comes in many different kinds of alloys that have special properties. Titanium is a material that can only be used in the creation of my spoon because it's one of the rarer metals (I'm referring to its abundance on Earth, not just how hard it is to obtain!).

With my knowledge, I discovered a way to combine them in such a way that the resulting material gave off more energy than any other known material. It's an easy process as well - all you need are some small bottles for storage and a container slightly larger than your spoon to hold it while you cook, along with some room temperature water.

I'm almost done, but I just have one more thing to say: if you want proof that I am the person who discovered how to make magic with science and you're reading this, then go to the town of Silverton, Vermont. There's a small shack hidden on an isolated farm where you can find my old secret lab and all my notes that I managed to salvage from when they burned it down. I've left some clues for anyone who knows how to decode them in this paper so they can figure out what I was trying to do - I'm sure they'll be surprised!

Yours truly, Dr. Mark 'E'
