She Is Waiting

Thursday 14th October, Story #319/366

By L.C. SchäferPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 3 min read

She slithers under the ice, her talons clicking. Displeasure radiates off her, off every hair and every scale. It vibrates the very air.

drip

The ice is a thick slab, such as a heavyweight wrestler could skate on with complete confidence. We're fortunate not to be able to see through it. Not clearly, at any rate. It's like looking through an opaque bathroom window. There's a hint of something like a voluptuous woman beyond, but it's... wrong.

drip

Too hideous for any single pair of eyes to see all at once, you see her only in fits and starts. Especially at this time of year, when she is not yet at her full strength.

drip drip

Her curves and (oh gosh) all that hair are juxtaposed against the impression of sharpness. When she turns one way, there's a hint of bright red, and when she turns elsewise, a smattering of white fur on the edge of vision...

drip

...where something sparkles, like glitter, or a migraine. Listen, if you can stand it, and you'll hear her call. Feel it. Jarring your bones.

drip

Pray, if you've a God to pray to, that she doesn't swivel completely and fix you with her icy black glare. What man can stand the sight of those bright red lips, stretched and stretched around sharp white teeth? One powerful flick of that tail and she could be pressed up against the ice, her jaw gaping a threat at you. Worse, ghastly grey claws could find a crack in the melting ice, the image of her clearer than ever, and twice as frightening.

drip

Why is she angry?

Neck deep in November as we are, a sign is appearing in various establishments up and down the country. Blossoming like a virulent mushroom. She feels it, in the chipped glacier behind her breasts. Every time another one goes up, she shudders, as if an arrow hit home between those scales.

And yet still...

drip... drip...

The sign says,

MARIAH CAREY'S ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS

***WILL BE SKIPPED***

IF PLAYED BEFORE 1ST DEC.

AFTER 1ST DEC, THE SONG IS ONLY ALLOWED

ONCE PER NIGHT

Oh, she's displeased, alright.

You better watch out.

Quick Author's Note

I love this song, so shoot me! I don't know where the legend of the Mariah came from, but I love that, too!

This was such a buildup......and then great laughter! Even though I'm not a fan of the song (unless it's played in wonderful Christmas movies like "Love Actually", I can appreciate the humor, since I feel pretty the same about about George Michael's 'Last Christmas".

The horror story right before Christmas. The image of such a woman can be enticing but deadly like a female 🕷 spider.

Every year I am subjugated to Christmas music immediately after, and sometimes before Halloween. The barriers between holidays have been destroyed. Great story, L.C.
