Code is everywhere. On the streets, vapor rose from the corner.

“I said I had five women last night,” Derringer said.

“Yeah, okay,” Bentonson remarked, his voice flat.

“I didn’t say I had them all at once.”

“Alright.”

“Anyway, I’m saying that I had them, right, and they paid me. Every one of them.”

“No.”

“I’m telling you like the Earth goes around the sun.”

“They paid you for….”

“I’m not making it up.” Derringer showed on his phone thirty thousand dollars on an app.

“Say, ‘word.’”

“I’m telling you. They gave me the money.”

“Just dates?”

“That was all.”
