Sadhna

Shiva, a moneylender, lived on the banks of a river in Assams Goalpara district. There was no one in the house except his wife and daughter Sadhna. But who has control over fate

Sadhnas mother died in just three days of fever. Shiva tried to convince Sadhna a lot but the child kept crying for her mother day and night.

Shivas uncle suggested a solution, Why do not you marry again, the child will get a mother too. Your house will also improve. The moneylender thought over it and decided to marry again.

Sadhnas stepmother did not have a good nature. The moneylender had to go out for a few months for the kings work. As soon as he left the house, his mother handed Sadhna a fishing basket and said,

Come and catch some good fish.

Poor little Sadhna did not know how to catch fish. She sat on the river bank and started crying. Just then there was a stir in the water and a golden fish came out of the water.

Sadhna daughter, I am your mother. Why are you crying

Hearing her, the fish gave her food to eat and filled her basket with fish. When

the stepmother came to know about this, she stopped Sadhna from going to the river. One day in the scorching sun, she said to her, Come, give water to the entire garden.

Hungry and thirsty, Sadhna was sitting under the tree and crying. Her dead mother came in the form of a parrot. She gave sweet fruits to Sadhna to eat and asked her to come every day.

The stepmother did not give food to Sadhna. Sadhna would sit under the tree every day and the parrot would feed her sweet fruits. When

the stepmother heard this, she got the tree cut. Sadhna also stopped going to the garden.

Then her mother started coming in the form of a cow. The stepmother saw that Sadhna was getting fat day and night. She found out that a cow feeds her milk to Sadhna every day.

The stepmother tried to kill the cow, but the cow gored her and ran away.

She was furious. Sadhna was kept under strict surveillance. After a few days, she saw that Sadhna was plucking and eating tomatoes from the field behind the house.

She uprooted that plant ruthlessly. She locked Sadhna in a room. She did not even give water to drink to the innocent Sadhna. Sadhnas mother took the form of a rat. She reached in front of Sadhna in that dark room! With tears in her eyes, she said-

Sadhna, do not cry, I have come and

brought roasted karaai (a mixture of grains) for you.

Sadhna ate the karaai to her hearts content and drank the water brought by her mother. Seeing that Sadhna was thriving even in the closed room, the stepmother decided to kill her. The moneylender was four days away from returning. Sadhnas mother gave her such clothes, which she wore and became safe.

Those clothes were not affected by the attack of a sword. Every attempt of the step mother went in vain. When the moneylender returned, he brought a lot of things for Sadhna. He started calling Sadhna. Just then a voice came from the room.

If you want to save Sadhnas life, then push the new mother out

When Shiva heard all the past events from Sadhna, he became very angry with his wife. As soon as she returned from the market, Shiva did not let her enter the house. She returned to her mothers house crying and sobbing.

Sadhna started living happily with her father. After that day, the soul of the mother did not come again.
