Running For It
Dash for the Cash
He would have to move fast. Even then, it would be risky. It had come down to speed and guts and the prize was in sight. The move had to be made now, and he was committed. They'd planned and practiced and this moment was why they had picked him, if it came to this.
For the merest of moments, doubt gave him pause. Was it worth the risk? Undoubtedly. Was he capable of it? He'd proven it more than once. But what if he failed? Everything they'd put into this would be in vain and no one would ever offer him another shot. In this business, reputation was everything. He had one chance and this was it. With one quick glance, he verified the diversion had worked and without another thought, he crouched, then shot like a bullet toward the million-dollar objective.
Halfway there! Wait, it's guarded! Shit, shit, shit! Gotta' take him out!
Head lowered, he pushed harder and slammed into the bulky man. His momentum rolled them both and he stretched toward the prize. Hand firmly in place, he dared to look. There, on the ground, was the ball. The crowd roared. They had won the Series!

Sounds to me like they stole the series. damn Yankees!
Nice twist!
Really nicely done with the twist! What a thrilling tale of high-stakes and metal-spiked heist!
I never would have guessed the ending! Brilliantly done, Dana ππ
I love this take! Awesome job building up the tension! I was trying to guess where this was going to go and was pleasantly surprised; awesome job Dana!!
What a great story
Awesome β€οΈ π
This is awesome, Dana!!! Loved it!!!πππ
Nice! I loved that surprise ending!
We each reap the prize in our moment, very nice buddy π
I do believe that you hit this one out of the park, Dana.
OMG.... LOVE it.... I had NO idea where you were going until the end. Kept me reading for sure. Then, I had visions of old Brooklyn Dodgers trying to win the series but always falling a bit short to the Yankees. GREAT WRITING.
Very good buildup. The tension was real. When he slammed into the bulky man at first I thought it was a receiver going for a TD. But for "they won the series." Great entry.
Oh yeah! When I go to the end I was like wait a minute he was running for home then I got images of Pete Rose slamming into the catcher in the all star game.
Very good. And may have actually inspired me to make an entry too.
hahaha nice twist at the end there. great tension built up throughout the story!
