**"Roommate of Darkness"**

''A Person Discovers that their new Roommate is a Serial Killer''

By AbbasPublished about a year ago 3 min read

Clara had always been an optimist, but moving into a new apartment in the city came with its share of risks. When she found the charming, affordable unit in a quiet neighborhood, she knew she couldn’t pass it up. The only catch was sharing the space with a new roommate.

She met Eric on the day she signed the lease. He was friendly, with an easy smile and a calm demeanor. They talked about their interests—music, cooking, and their favorite local spots—and he seemed like a perfect match. They even shared a mutual love for classic films, which made Clara feel more at ease about the arrangement.

The first few weeks went smoothly. Eric was polite, kept to his own schedule, and respected Clara’s space. They exchanged pleasantries, sometimes shared a meal, but mostly lived their separate lives. Clara appreciated the peace of living with someone who was considerate and unobtrusive.

One evening, as Clara was sorting through boxes in her room, she stumbled upon an old box she had forgotten to unpack. Inside, she found a collection of old family photographs and a dusty journal. The journal was filled with handwritten notes.

Flipping through the pages, Clara was struck by the macabre nature of some entries. Eric had written about his fascination with criminal psychology, describing in unsettling detail various methods and motives of notorious killers. It was dark, almost obsessive. Clara’s initial amusement turned to unease as she read through the pages.

Her unease deepened when she noticed a small section at the back of the journal with a list of names. The names were followed by brief, cryptic notes. Some entries included dates, locations, and detailed descriptions of people’s daily routines. Clara’s blood ran cold as she realized that many of the names were of people she recognized from the neighborhood.

The next day, Clara tried to push the journal out of her mind. She rationalized it as a phase Eric had gone through—a dark curiosity that he had long since outgrown. But the journal lingered in her thoughts, and every time she saw Eric’s calm, unassuming face, a knot tightened in her stomach.

Things took a more disturbing turn when Clara discovered a strange odor in the apartment. At first, she thought it was just a lingering smell from the garbage. But it grew stronger, and it was coming from the basement storage area that Eric had claimed for his own.

One evening, Clara decided to investigate. She waited until Eric was out for his late-night jog and quietly crept into the basement. The space was cluttered with old furniture, dusty boxes, and a large, locked trunk.

With a trembling hand, Clara managed to force the trunk open. Inside, she found an assortment of disturbing items—blood-stained clothing, a collection of photographs of various people, and a knife with traces of blood on it.

Panic surged through Clara. She knew she had to act quickly. She gathered her courage and fled the basement, calling the police with shaking hands. They arrived promptly, and as she explained her findings, Eric walked in, his face betraying no sign of panic.

The police arrested Eric without incident. As they led him away in handcuffs, Clara felt a sickening mix of relief and horror.

Clara moved out of the apartment as soon as she could, leaving behind the haunting memories of the past few months. Though she tried to put the experience behind her, the chilling realization that someone so ordinary could harbor such darkness remained with her, a reminder of the shadows lurking beneath the surface of everyday life.
