I was tagged by Oneg to participate in James & Oneg's Tag You're it Challenge.

Challenge rules: start a story/poem with the last line of an email or letter you recently received.

The order confirmation email said, “To contact us, use the portal,” but there was no link. How could they forget something so basic? Sara let out a deep frustrated sigh. They’ve made it impossible to return this crappy keyboard.

She bought it to replace the one she spilled her coffee on a week ago. Money was tight, so she chose the least expensive one. When it arrived, she immediately noticed that the keys did not resemble letters in the English alphabet. Nor did they look Russian or Chinese.

The desktop computer was all she had. Well, that and her phone. Thankfully, she could still check her email on her several generations old iPhone.

Sara read the email again. It was auto generated from one of those ‘no reply’ accounts. There was definitely no link and no phone number. She was beginning to think she was stuck with the thing until a green light started blinking on one of the keys in the center of the board.

When she pressed it out of curiosity, a shaft of light projected towards the ceiling. Sara jumped back in surprise. The light scanned the room until it found her and pulled her towards the source. It was an odd sensation, like being sucked through a straw, then dumped onto a concrete floor like a pile of cargo.

She was met with a chorus of excited giggles. “Finally, a specimen!”
