William’s POV

I awoke with a jolt, im No longer tied down to the table, instead I’m sitting upright in a chair. The two men from before are towering over me, ”I said wake up” the one on the left said he glared down at me, this was the first time I saw these two men. the one on the left had dark brown eyes and short brown hair. The one on the right was blond with brown eyes, his hair falling into his face. “What does he want?” I asked as I sat up slowly and eyed both of them “the ball is in an hour it’s time to get ready.” They said as they turned and started walking away, I stood up slowly noticing the stabbing pain in my right side. must have been where I felt the jolt that woke me up, I look around and notice a black suit hung in the far corner of the room, right next to a picture of Mina. I stared at the picture and felt a small pain in my heart, I don’t understand why I feel that way but it hurt. I grabbed the hanger and moved back toward the chair, where my father was now sitting. “Where did you come from?” I asked “I just came in, thought you could use a bit of a pep talk” my father grinned as he said this and my stomach turned. “I don’t need you.” I replied pulling my shirt off. “Are you ready for tonight?” he asked standing up “to announce the engagement? no.” I said looking at him, “ I’ll let you get ready then.” He stated turning to leave.

Chloe’s POV

I arrived at the ball wearing the dress Mae and I picked out, I made my way over to the two doors that are held open by two men in black suits. “Welcome” they said as I slowly slipped passed before they could have a chance to notice who I was, I blinked at the bright light illuminating from the high ceiling this must be where William’s father stays when he is not visiting his kids I thought to myself. I looked around at the people standing around talking, nobody really even glanced in my direction. I smiled and made my way into the ballroom where there was a large dance floor and tables off to the sides, the tables on the left had food, the tables on the right had drinks. Meet at the drinks, I remembered Mae saying. I started making my way over in that direction, “now announcing sir William, and his Fiancé Miss Mina.” I hard someone announce. I slowly turned and saw William standing at the top of a grand staircase a smile on his face, standing next to him was that woman that we ate dinner with the one night a few weeks ago. She also had a smile on her face, I chewed on my lip trying to hold onto myself to keep from letting tears fall. I turned and finished making my way over to the drinks, once there I grabbed a drink and sipped slowly and watched as couples slid across the dance floor.

Mae’s POV

i meT with my brother before we were meant to go to the ball, I wanted to try to pick at him a bit to see what has happened the past few days. he always calls me, we talk every day but he’s been distant lately and I want to know why. “Hello brother” I said sinking down into the couch, i pulled him into the lounge room so we could be alone for a couple minutes before father decided it’s time for us to enter the ball. “Mae, we can’t talk right now.” He said crossing his arms. “We haven’t spoken in a week William.” I stated before giving him a small smile “I got her to come tonight” I added feeling a bit proud of myself. “you got who to come tonight?” he asked, narrowing his eyes at me. “Chloe, you know, your one true love?” I muttered before looking away. “I don’t know anyone named Chloe.” He replied before letting out a sigh and walking toward the door, father comes in with Mina trailing behind him. “It’s time.” He states, we follow him quietly until we reached the grand staircase and waited to be announced. After a moment father starts going down the stairs, William and Mina went next, who were announced to the crowd as Mr William, and his fiancé Miss Mina. i felt my heart stop and i watched in horror as they descended the stairs.
