Come, gather around my children, and hear such a morbid and scary tale that you’ll sleep with the light on and think twice before going out at night. It's a tale as old as time about the one they call Pumpkin Head.

Now, children, Pumpkin Head, as you may have guessed, was born with a pumpkin gourd instead of a head due to his mother’s fondness for pumpkins and a witch’s curse. He was ridiculed by the boys and scorned by the girls all his life.

When his mother, the only one who loved him, was murdered, he swore revenge on the people who killed her. So, visiting a voodoo queen, Pumpkin Head asked for a potion to help him eliminate those who dared to mock and laugh at him.

So, the voodoo queen made Pumpkin Head a potion, but little did he know that her potion was also a curse. Not only did she imbue the potion with properties to give Pumpkin Head an unnatural strength and the ability to move quickly, but she added to her chant a curse that would only allow him to come out during a Full Moon in the autumn months. She said this curse would limit his abilities and give the townspeople a chance.

So every autumn, by the full moon's light, Pumpkin Head returns to our town, looking for mocking boys’ heads to return to his lair. He looks for scornful girls, hoping to find a bride to survive, becoming Mrs. Pumpkin Head.

So beware, children, Autumn is here, and the full moon is near. Pumpkin Head will be waiting for you.

And the Headless Horseman rides through Sleepy Hollow once again! Of course, he was a Hessian, but that's a different story. Great story!

Oh I love this. I want to hear it read out loud. It seems like the perfect campfire story, hot cider or chocolate and good stories.
