Patience Black
For the "Epic Beginnings" challenge
When the Grand Comet struck the earth 10 years ago outside Cedar Rapids, residents of Iowa were granted inhuman abilities upon reaching adulthood. The "gifting ceremony", as they came to call it, became the festival during which such blessings were bestowed, by placing one's hand on the stone.
This is where heroes were born.

Patience Black was totally hoping for pyrokinesis.
But no.
The fates had other plans, apparently.
Soon after the ceremony, Patience found that she was completely unrivaled at the particular ability of waiting in long lines.
It got to the point where she enjoyed it immensely, and would often go to crowded amusement parks or grand openings just to wait in the lines all day. She wouldn't even bother to do what everyone else was there for. Once she got to the front, she'd just give her place to the next person and return to the end of the line again. She just needed the exhilarating thrill of waiting in those lines.
In time people took notice of her mad skills, and she was quickly made into an internet sensation. Unsuspecting tourists and thrillseekers would inadvertently bump into her, waiting in line with her sweatpants and hoodie, usually munching on mundane snacks.
But inso watching this odd hero, others found joy and contentment in their wait, where before there would've been boredom and dread.
Even the great gifted hero, Hero (who had a particularly creative name), once put his world-saving efforts on hold to wait in line with her the entire day.
When asked by various interviewers and world leaders why she does what she does, she'd look only at the camera and address the children of the world. “Because you're worth the wait,” she'd say.
And then she'd return to her place in line.
