Night Raven

Twin Souls

By Gypsy.Published 4 years ago 7 min read

Tonight holds nothing new to surprise, like a reoccurring nightmare lost inside a dulled lullaby.

This is for a thrill or the lack thereof as either will suffice, for in this moment it's about the suspense of something that may excite.

Momentary serenity can be captured here, yet it is found only if this relentless appetite can be satisfied.

Now that we have your attention, an intriguing story awaits, so raise the curtain and take your seats it's time to start the show.

---- Once upon an unfortunate time there lived a very self absorbed man, using others to gain for himself until he met his mirrored twin to whom he became completely lost within.

"Don't you, forget about me" sings the tune blasting from the radio snapping him out of this ever present memory. Reality sucker punching Crowley's ageless face, shoving his sadness down his throat. Hearing the darkness call to him as it has so many nights before, surrendering to it's beckoning, he takes that drive again.

The time is now one o'clock in the morning on the outskirts of Devil's Canyon. This is where we find him, an overly charming man with a horrible fear of himself. He glances into the rearview mirror of his nineteen sixty-seven Lincoln Continental trying to catch a glimpse of his reflection, only to find an image of the same black highway filling that dark space.

One would think that after all those years with nothing there to admire, surely he had forgotten how he fell in love with his youthful vanity in the first place. Crowley Dellon Bennett isn't one to easily forget anything to do with himself, especially that gorgeous face. If you recall what was stated prior, he is completely self-absorbed. For this reason he can't help but to draw them in, it's easy to do really. His eyes a silvery grey, deep and bright just as the pale moonlight in October. He is their fatal weakness, though for Crowley there is only one.

Brushing back her long curls of ruby red hair, a shimmer flashes across her striking blue-grey eyes. Vanity and Chaos incarnate creep out from the shadows, like a beautiful nightmare with skin a shade of pale even Death would envy. Raven Nicole Davies isn't one to easily forget a face, especially one that was as pretty and charming as his. She would never let on, but her heart still belongs to his embrace. Stubborn though, she only lets the pain of his memory show on the surface.

Stopping to bathe in the dim street light, the wind begins to blow as it carries her scent away to him. Seeping through a crack in his window it filters deep into his lungs. Tossing out his cigarette butt, he feels the beast within him awake. He sees her up ahead, such a disturbing beauty she is. Putting away his devious intent, he pulls to the side of the road and flashes a slick smile. She slowly opens the car door and slides those long legs across his burnt orange leather seat.

They drive the black highway for hours, the snake charmer and his prey. With destination finally in sight, she turns and blows a kiss his way. Little does she know the kind of hell that awaits her inside.

Sliding open the thick rusted metal door, a look of terror crosses her face as he pushes her to the floor. Damp and cold concrete greets her fragile frame, her fear begins to show now. He loves this part, that moment they find his primal sin. Grabbing her wrist and pulling her in, Crowley loses himself within her breath again. Raven fails to be free from his grasp, becoming paralyzed with his embrace, her body falls into his arms.

A fleeting image plays in his mind recalling her time here with him before, quickly releasing his killer hold on her. "Your different now, forgive me", he whispers as he lays the beauty of her across his big brass bed. He had mistaken her for one of the usual unsatisfying thrills.

Coming out of a sleeper hold induced nap she cracks open her heavy eyes, the fog clouding her thoughts before, slowly fades away. Aware of her surroundings now, she catches a familiar scent in the room. Choking on the smell of a bit to much old incense and patchouli in the air, her heart digs up a shadow of his face. Catching herself quickly to avoid the feeling of him, she is reminded of her reason here.

A flicker of light dancing in the dark catches her attention, looking up she spots a shadow creeping slowly on the wall. Startled by his quickness towards her, he sees her face has death's cold promise written all over it. His heart races with anticipation from her fright, silence then fills the air as he reaches for her end. Then the same memory of her shows it's sharp ivory fangs again, how could she tear his world apart like she did.

Slow yet sweet, this gasp for air will be her last, brushing her hair back from her face he goes in for the kill. Let the thrill fill his veins and consume this night, he won't be fooled twice. Offering her one last fated kiss, her gaze meeting that of his as she shows no sign of fear.

Across her lips, he finds her truth, in an instant it binds him tight like an invisible silk noose. Faster than he could move, unusual as that is. The roles have switched, she has turned on him. "I offered you an eternity with me", he says to her as she shoves him into the ground. He eats the filth and dirt below, coughing up his bitter confusion of how she broke his soul.

That beautiful face was once his fair prey, now stealing the charm from his blurred sight. "I was never offered anything, you only assumed I wanted to be like you", she cries out loud as a tear rolls down her porcelain white face.

The fight ensues long into mid-day, like a graceful dance between wolf and hawk, spinning in poetic circles trading hits. Now comes the moment where the fatal wound is found, it's not her blood but that of his own. The fear he has always loved to hate, though he had hoped for it to be his fate. A timeless secret he would kill to keep it safe, yet in this moment he cannot find the reason why.

In failed attempt to speak his truth, no words can escape. This snake charmers tongue has been misplaced as century old blood fills up the space. He can see clearly what lies in wait, his collection of old bones and faces with flesh long ripped away. Hovering high above his grace, he catches something familiar upon her face. More beautiful now than before, she rushes in to give him what was left of her love. One last kiss before his ending is found, looking deep into his moon lit eyes as she returns what he once stole from her. Warmth rises from within the soul, not her body but of his own. Bitten and drained to the edge of demise, he watches as she slowly walks away.

Smiling at her sudden change in thought, she feels alive again. Blood dripping from her lips in such a beautiful crimson red, she is the shadow of night risen from the dead. Despite the absence of blood flowing through her veins, her heart still flutters thinking of her love rekindled again. In that very moment the would be killer finally found his soul, hidden long ago within the song of a beautiful night raven.

Wiping his blood from her lips, she slips into hell's night. Thinking back to that forgotten moment, she recalls that she did want to be like him and let his eternity swallow up her soul. She had dreams of this turning for half a century before, though only the flash of a charming face that so reflected hers and his fangs sinking into her milky white breast. Those night visions left her angry and confused because she never knew the story of their love before. This is what made her a raven of the night, seeking out those that were just like him and saving their darkened soul.

He had been drawn into Devil's Canyon that night, by a warm whisper in the October wind. This town is where he met his eternal end, back before the Canyon let the Devil in. He had sworn never to return after he had his heart stolen by her when she left without a word, disappearing with the light. Now he knows it was his precious inner twine, the counterpart to his soul, it was her whisper that called him back again.

Hand in hand together in the dark, the two of them, their souls on fire with burning light. This was not the story of pain they once thought it so, rather a story of miscommunication and lost time between a beautiful split soul. Happiness ends this darkness in our fairytale, two eternal flames can forever share this night. Saving humankind from themselves, before soul drained killers they became.

---- This is where the show must end, we hope you enjoyed the storyline. But before you take your coats and head out for the door, remember this as you step out into the dark alleyway to find the light, The most broken yet beautiful souls belong to those frightful things that go bump in the night.
