My Reflection Spoke First — A Haunted Mirror Horror Story

It's not me, I know it's not me

By LucianPublished 9 months ago 2 min read

I used to not believe in ghosts and gods, nor was I afraid of the dark.

Until that night, my reflection opened its mouth, and I didn't move at all.

The mirror was an old item left by the landlord, attached to the bathroom sink. The frame was mottled and the glass was yellow, as if it would break at any time. When I first moved in, I wanted to replace it several times, but every time I reached out to take it down, I always felt uncomfortable. It was not fear, but a feeling of being watched.

This feeling became stronger and stronger. When I brushed my teeth every day, I always felt that the "me" in the mirror was looking at me, instead of moving in sync with me. It seemed to be waiting for me to make a mistake.

Until that night, everything changed.

I woke up at two in the morning, thirsty, got out of bed and walked into the bathroom, the light was dim. In the mirror, my shadow stood with his head down. But I didn't look down.

I was stunned, and my mind was blank for a moment. I slowly reached out my hand, but the hand in the mirror did not move.

I didn't move, but it suddenly raised its head and looked at me.

Then it smiled.

The corners of the mouth lifted up little by little, slowly, as if imitating a human expression.

"You shouldn't look at me for too long." The voice in the mirror was hoarse and light, like a whisper through the water.

I screamed and fell out of the bathroom, slamming the door. The room was silent, but my heartbeat was deafening. I told myself that this must be an illusion, from lack of sleep. But in the next few days, the me in the mirror became more and more "active".

Sometimes I just walked quickly past the bathroom door, but it would look at me from the mirror, with an expression - not horror, but strangeness.

It was like looking at a sample of the object being imitated.

What's more terrifying is that it began to imitate "mistakes".

For example, I wiped the right side of my face, but it wiped the left side.

I blinked, and it was half a beat late.

I smiled, but it didn't move.

Once I covered the mirror with a towel, and I only heard a slight vibration of the glass behind me. When I turned around, the towel had fallen to the ground.

I tried to find someone to look at this mirror.

The master took a look and said, "You'd better not touch it." I asked why, he just shook his head and said, "Some things can't reflect themselves, but can be reflected in."

I can't sleep. At night, I always hear a small "knock knock" sound coming from the bathroom, like someone tapping the mirror with their knuckles. I once mustered up the courage to turn on the light, but saw nothing.

But I know it's there. It's still there.

It's been watching me. Waiting for me to make a mistake.

Waiting for me to lose my concentration.

Waiting for me to look into its eyes again.
