🔪《She blinked in the mirror》

The reflection isn’t always yours

By LucianPublished 9 months ago 2 min read

93 Windsor Road is an old apartment building with cheap rent, but it never lacks tenants.

The new resident on the west side of the fourth floor is Lina, a young woman who works in the library. She is not talkative and often stays alone in the room. Neighbors only nod at the elevator occasionally, and no one really knows her.

Until the mirror was moved in.

The mirror is very old. According to Lina herself, it is an antique she bought online for $20.

The frame is a dark gold wood carving, the surface is peeling and mottled. The most special thing is that it is too big, almost reaching the ceiling, standing diagonally from the corner of the bedroom wall, reflecting the entire bed.

There was nothing strange at first.

Until one day, when Lina was changing clothes, she found that she was a beat slower in the mirror.

She turned around, and the "her" there turned a moment later.

Lina thought it was a light problem and rubbed her eyes.

But the next day, when she was sitting on the bed reading, she saw herself smiling in the mirror out of the corner of her eye.

But she didn't smile.

She tried not to look at the mirror.

She covered it with a cloth, placed it at a different angle, and even pasted black paper on it.

But there were always a few times - when she woke up late at night, when she washed her face in the bathroom, in front of the reflective glass in the hallway -

she would see "that her", still there.

Her smile became clearer and clearer.

But her eyes became more and more unfamiliar.

One night, the neighbor heard her screaming in the room.

When the police arrived, the door was ajar and there was no one in the house.

The furniture was intact, the mobile phone was still on the table, and the kettle was still bubbling with steam.

But the person seemed to have evaporated.

Only the huge mirror in the corner of the bedroom was still there, which was unreasonably clean.

The mirror did not reflect the room, but a dark abyss, like another... empty house.

Some people said that the mirror would occasionally move a little bit, as if the things inside were trying to "get closer".

Others said that when they passed by one night, they saw a girl standing in the mirror, blinking at the door.

That was not Lina.

Not her real appearance.

And the west side of the fourth floor of the apartment building has never been rented since then.
