Mom- Out Looking For You. STAY PUT.
Be back soon. Love, Brit

Mom,
Didn't want to wake you up. Going out for supplies. Please stay here until I get back. Wish me luck. And don't come after me, I'll be okay on my own. I left Big Bertha in the corner and I took the prostitute gun that Uncle left us. Why he had a little garter gun in a pearl satchel, I'll never know.
Be back TONIGHT.
Love,
Brit
P.S. I will use my key. Don't open the door for anyone. If something happens, please leave me a sign and I will come looking for you.

Dear Mom,
I've been looking for you for 9 days. I came back home because it's our base and I'm almost out of gas. We told each other that we would come back here and wait for each other if we ever got separated.
I can't help but feel as though I've failed you. I shouldn't have left you by yourself. You weren't in any condition to go on a run since you got so sick the night before.
I don't know where to look for you. I'm only writing to keep my head clear in case I'm overlooking anything. The door was closed but not locked. I definitely remember locking it before I left. I didn't see any sign of forced entry. Bertha has not moved or been used. The Yukon is still in front of the house with a dead battery.
I'm praying that I find you. What am I missing?
I miss you so much, you are my heart.
Love,
Brit

Dear Mom,
I found that locket on your bedside. The one we made out of clay as your Christmas present when we were little. I remember making it. I think I was 8 and Brandi was 4. We were so nervous presenting it to you because it's supposed to be in the shape of a heart but it's terribly deformed. You never made us feel bad about it but I thought we could've done better.
I get that during these times it's okay to be sentimental but that ugly thing could've gone in the trash.
I love you so much, Mom.
I'm going to keep looking for you. You know where home base is.

Dear Mom,
I've learned a new skill. Since the Pontiac had no more gas, I siphoned the gas from the Yukon. Skills.
Going out to find food. The Yukon had a full tank but since you were working from home before the world went to shit, the battery was dead. Yes, it would've been easier to give it a jump but it would've been too loud. I'm trying to stay stealthy and healthy so I can find you.
Most of the neighbors have already transitioned from the illness. I heard Mrs. Solomon and Christian transition yesterday. Kiya alerted the neighborhood when it started. Sherry said they advanced toward her so she shot them both in the chest but they were still moving so she stabbed them in their heads.
I helped Sherry bury them both in the backyard. It's horrible that she lost her mom and daughter at the same time. And I heard the whole thing.
Sherry still has Kiya, but Kiya is not street smart. Kiya barks too damn much. She even barked at me. At this point, supplies are running low for everyone. Sherry may end up eating Kiya.
If you make it here before I get back, stay put.
Love,
Brit

Dear Mom,
I'm not going on a supply run for a few days. I found a 5-gallon Sparkletts jug in the Yukon! It was underneath the bags of clothes we were gonna donate. I'll have to move it inside tonight so the neighbors don't see.
Anyway, I'll stay put for a few days. I'll make us some crystal light and ramen. I love and miss you so much.
Love,
Brit

Mom,
Kiya got out and I found her in our yard last night. She started barking so I took Uncle's prostitute gun and…
God, Mom, I ate Kiya.
I can hear Sherry calling for her every few hours. She asked me this morning if I've seen her. I told her no. I hope God forgives me.
-------------------
Dear Mom,
All I've had is ramen and crystal light for 12 days. I haven't had any fresh food, fruits, or vegetables. Kiya was not good either. I've been constipated for over a week and now I have hemorrhoids.
I'm in so much pain. I have to go for a walk because I can't sit down here anymore. I'm not going to go far. I just need to move around. I'll just hang around the backyard and check the perimeter for any weak spots.
Love,
Brit

Dear Mom,
Brandi came by to grab supplies from the house. She didn't know I was here. She told me everything.
I'm so sorry I wasn't there while you transitioned. I failed you. I left you by yourself. I thought you were just resting when I left my note by your bed.
She was the one who found you. She still has her key. She told her father to drive her here so she could check on us. She opened the front door and saw you just standing in the kitchen, not moving. You didn't look like yourself, she said you couldn't talk and didn’t recognize her. Your eyes were cloudy and gray, your skin was pale, and you were wheezing. She called your name and then you started after her.
You began to reach out for her and she got scared so she left out the front door. You swung it open and it closed behind you. You followed her down the street as she ran to her father's U-haul truck. He was standing outside of the truck and you jumped on his back and bit him.
Brandi had to shoot you both with his gun. She thought I was dead too, so she drove away and didn’t come back until today.
You and I both hated that man, ever since he told Brandi that you loved me more than you loved her. He brainwashed her into believing it, which drew a rift between our family. I'm so fucking sorry that she never realized he said that for his own personal gain. He got what he deserved. But you didn't. I searched everywhere and couldn't find you. I'm so fucking sorry I couldn't give you a proper burial.
And I'm so fucking sorry that Brandi and I hadn't reconciled after all those years apart. I know it broke your heart that the three of us couldn't live together and get along.
I just want you to rest easy knowing that she and I are together now and will watch each other's backs as we should've done all along. Like sisters are supposed to.
I just wish you were here to witness it.
We both miss you and love you so much.
Love,
Brittni

Dear Mom,
We found your body today. You were wandering aimlessly at the park around the corner from the house. We immediately knew it was you. Brandi recognized the hole she put in your chest. She thought she put you down when she shot you and her father. She got too upset and couldn't take it so I walked her home and went back for you. I faced you. You didn't see me at first, so I was just able to look at you. Your face was covered in dry blood. I guess that explains why I never saw Brandi's father when I was out looking for you. When I drew closer, you saw me. You didn't recognize me, of course. You started to come for me but I put you down with Uncle's gun.
I carried you home. I found Brandi in the backyard, frantically digging a hole just big enough so we could put you to rest. We wrapped you in a blanket and placed your lifeless body in the ground. I told Brandi to wait as I went into the house. I went into your room and came back to the backyard, carrying that stupid heart-shaped locket. Brandi and I both managed to laugh when she saw me with it. I placed it on your chest and we buried our heart with you. Then we said our prayers.
I'm crying as I'm writing this. Not only because I'm sad. I'm just so relieved that I found you. Now you can rest easy and I can stop looking.
We both love and miss you so much.
Love,
Brittni
