Marine Corps Stories: Red Flag
Two Marines observe the landscape.
In the wind, the colors blew in an almost rhythmic pattern.
“Look at all of the other services,” Staff Sergeant Martin Alexander observed between sips of the brew.
“What about them?” Sergeant José Helu sipped, too.
“Which one does your eye go to first?”
Helu peered and smiled.
“Okay.”
“Exactly. The rest are white, blue, or black. Who are the first in and last out? Who are the tip of the spear?” Alexander asked.
“Are you recording a commercial?” Helu asked wryly.
“I’m just saying we’re the best. America doesn’t need us. America wants a Marine Corps.”
“It’s the truth.”
