Marigolden Light

By Edlyn Escoto

By Edlyn EscotoPublished 4 years ago 3 min read

Here I have

A drop of light in hand

Call it what you wish

Sunstone of ever after

Seed of petaled life

Healing elixer

Goldenbloom of blessing

Tagetes

Marigold

I call it

A well of memories

Hair tucked with care behind dark ears

Tanned skin from the light

After so long hiding in the dark

Braided strands hang down

Framing face of dark eyes

and round cheeks

No longer expression

Of joy

Clutch tightly to the memories

Of everything before and beyond

"Can you see me?"

Am I never far from your thoughts?

Will you carry me through all my doubts

and insecurities?

All the hardships and friendships

Love and loss

Along the way

I know reality now

I know belief now

I know truth now

Tell me, mother, father

Can you see me standing here?

On my own two feet and I am

Breathing deeply now

Here to

Find my own way

Running with arms spread wide

Not to catch your embrace

But tame the wild winds

Of the unknown

And fly on wings of fading petals

I tried so hard to be your hero

Go through the trials and tribulations

I may not be Tiana,

Flynn Rider,

Spiderman,

Or any kind of superhuman savior

No warriors in sight

But I've got a dream

To make you proud of me

I've come too far to be denied

No longer drowning

Nor reaching for a hand to guide me

home

I am my own protection now

I just have to know

So tell me when the shots are down

And the fighting's drawing near

Will you stand by my side?

Will you stand by your child

Tonight?

How far would you go

To ensure the safety of one of your own?

They say I could never disappoint you

I can see you everywhere

You're always there with me

But are you really?

Could I never let you down?

Will you still stay with me

When my bravery's all run out?

Cling to the symbol of memory

I hold the golden flower high

Place it on the mantle

remembrance of a family

I once knew

A heritage

I can barely recall but know

Is true

It's hard to say I can remember you

When I barely even know

Who I am

But still, I will carry on

Will shine and spin

Under stars and clouds and

Silver dappled river skies

Will raise my mighty sword

In the honor of my own name

You won't forget me

No one will

Even if you try

I dare you

Lose every single thought

Wonder who I am

You won't get the chance

Don't ever think you're safe

I will come for you

If you deny me

What is mine

All I want

To change the world

And meet the person I am

becoming

You know I'm blooming bright

I am more than a fragile bud

On a stem thinner than a new-grown twig

With each piece collected

From broken memories

The puzzle turns and fits

Locks further into place

And I know inside

I won't break

Won't shatter like a mirror

Worth seven years, no

I only exist to ignite

Flare my wings wide

Burn up and rise again

Fly high and far,

I am brave

I am true

I follow my heart

Who I am meant to be

Is me.

Not so fragile now

And maybe I never was

Found my own heartsong

Marigolden lights

Blasts of sunlit power

Each single yellow petal

Brimming with more light and love

Than you could ever know now

And each one peels

Each special petal

That

Falls

Down

It hits the ground

Like thunder

That's how you know

Deep down inside

I'm unstoppable.
