Little Blue Orb
For Kayleigh Fraser's Microfiction Challenge
By Rachel DeemingPublished 2 years ago • 1 min read
When we were hairy, we never realised we were floating. Now that we're becoming hairless, we've seen how we're suspended and realise our smallness.
Ever reaching beyond our bounds, stretching further towards what we don't know.
I wish we could just be happy to be caretakers of our blue orb.

Congratulaions i did like this one very much
Congrats on placing in the challenge!! Well-deserved, such a beautifully crafted reflection :)
Congratulations on placing in Kayleigh's unofficial challenge! Excellent work! I love your entry so much!!!
I see so many interpretations of this, different ways the story can expand. For me, I'm seeing it as a lamentation of our proclivity to look outwards and simultaneously neglect what's right in front of us (or below, in the case of the ocean). I wish we could invest our space *exploration* program into an oceanic alternative. Shouldn't we know the undisovered life rather than searching for life that probably isn't there? A reset of our priorities is in order, I feel. Great entry! I smell a short-lister with that opening line (*Superb!*). :D
Same same. I wish could just be happy too.
Well put… ‘ I wish we could just be happy to be caretakers of our blue orb.’ Less taking and more caretaking! Interesting thought “We never realised we were floating.’
Nice one , we really never are satisfied are we?
This is a beautiful and strong message. But it is human nature to never be satisfied. Love this short story.
It would be nice if we could suspend just a little of our animation over all the things we want without considering the cost.
Aww 🥹 This is really lovely. The story of our ignorance to knowledge, and our longing for more. The closing line felt like a whisper, pining for the endless noisy quest for expansion to cease. You fit so much into these 50 words! Well done x
But humans are never happy for anything, are they? Nothing is never enough. I agree with Rommi below. Let the hairy ones gake over hehehehe
Amen!!
If we hairless apes don't take care of it, maybe the hairy ones will take it all back, like in the movies. That would be bananas! Hehe...
But it t knowing more, we know more to take better care. One night hope.
Very profound!
Awareness of our surroundings and its fragility is crucial! This is quite a leap in time for so few words. Well done!
Yep, humanity is never content with what it has 🤣. It's kind of opposite to the point of your story, but I always ask people to think about the universe whenever they are struggling with an issue, just to make them realise how small that issue is when compared to existence. That thought does help me a lot 😅
