I woke up with a start, an owl had been hooting at me.

"What are you doing?" I asked as I whirled my head around to face a true owl. His feathers were mostly grey, he had gold specks in it as well. His beak was barely visible with his grey face. He giggled at me with his buddies who were also perched behind me. "We've got new blood here!" he shouted towards me.

"My owner is in her first year here at the witchcraft and wizardry school. I have sat here before with her older brother. So I am not as new as you think." I said and I whirled my head back around.

"Don't mind him," said a soft voice next to me. I looked to the left of me and a beautiful barn owl was looking at me with curious yellow eyes and wonderful feathers that were full and voluminous, her feathers were golden and amber with a white face. Her beak was polished and well cared for.

"He's grumpy because his owner Chad Wicken has not given him any letters to deliver," she responded.

"Oh I heard that my owner is not the biggest fan of Chad, I am Wingston by the way," i said introducing myself, she blinked at me with her amber golden eyes.

"Wingston, that's a ridiculous name!" she said laughing.

"Well, did your owner come up with a better name?" I half-teased and asked.

"Yes, my name is Herberta," she said.

"That's a lovely name," I told her even though it almost made me want to hurl up my last meal.

"My friends though, call me Berta," she said and I swallowed hard. That was a much better name.

"Anyways, I think my owner is here, I have to go," she said and she elegantly flew towards the door and landed on a curly-haired girl's shoulder and the door closed. What an owl she was giving me the hoots all over. I was deep in thought when my best friend King flew up and perched himself next to me.

"Who, Who! Are you there?" he asked me and I shook myself out of my deep thought.

"I just met the perfect owl," I reported without thinking. "Have you met Berta?" I asked.

"Oh ya, but she is way out of your league," said King and he shook his feathers. "I am so tired," he said.

"Right. How far did you go?" I asked him, I looked over and he was trying to tuck into his neck to get into a better position.

"I was flying for nearly five days straight," he complained. "Patricia really misses her parents and younger sister."

"Well, she will be joining Patricia next year won't she?" I asked him and he merely nodded and his eyes were already slowly closing.

"Okay, I will leave you to sleep," I told him and I took off into the night. Hunting was always a struggle. I kept my eyes open for movement across the grounds when suddenly I felt a puff of air coming from my right side and I whirled my head around not fast enough, but enough to see the shadow of another owl.

"Who is out there?" I called. All I heard back was a soft giggle and again I felt the wind this time with a louder giggle. It almost sounded like Berta and sure enough, she swooped into my field of vision and I watched her as she carefully with grace rocked through the wind. I started following her movement as she laughed. I caught up and was in front of her.

"Want to go for a hunt together?" I asked.

"Sure. But the last one is going to eat a rotten mouse," she called and I sped up after her.

Together we sped through the trees and caught mice, we found a tree by the lake and ate them together. "I have not seen you around is this your owner's first year?" I asked her.

"Yes, you?" she asked me.

"Yes, but she had a brother before her, so I kinda know the routine," I replied puffing out my chest of feathers.

"Oh so you can show me the ropes?" she asked.

"Yes, I am the only one that knows all the ropes," I teased.

After that night, we hunted together for nearly five nights straight. I went on delivery and came back and she still wanted to go on hunts with me. During the day we either perched together or we were laughing with King. Each day we grew closer and closer, sadly summer came and we parted ways, the only way we saw each other was as if we were on the same route. We reunited once more in September and we spent every moment together.
