“Wait!” Cera cried out to Denova, after passing a well-dressed male, kicking the left back tire of his black Mercedes Benz, on the side of the highway, reserved for cars in distress.

“Why?” Denova demands, slowing down, her eyes in the rearview mirror.

“Maybe he needs help,” Cera said.

Denova slows down, then reverses to the black Mercedes Benz. Scrutinized the young man up and down, then sped off.

“Stop!” Cera cried.

“Even his suit and his expensive shoes are worth more than this car,” she criticized.

“I am not lending you any money to buy that Christian Louboutin shoes that you saw on sale. Plus, is that all you can see when you look at someone? What they are wearing and how they look. Can’t you look beyond the material possession and appearance and see a human in distress!”

“That’s why you are always going to be poor, you go around feeling sorry for everyone,” Denova criticized her.

“Go back!” Cera demands screeching through her teeth.

“You are damn lucky it’s your car. Or else we would clear the highway already,” Denova relents and obeys, complaining, “Maybe he is waiting on triple A?”

“Kicking his tire, hell no.”

She stops and Cera steps out asking, “Are you Ok?”

He stared at her, then said, “I am late and my car shut down,”

“And we too will be late if we don’t leave now!” Denova shouts from inside the car.

“Can we drop you off somewhere?” Cera asked.

“Sorry, but I can’t leave my car here,” he said, glancing around.

Cera eased towards the hood and unlatched it. Suddenly she heard tires screech as a door slammed. She watched Denova speed away.

“Is she your friend?” he asked.

“Use to be,” she said watching the car as it turned around a bend in the road.

Nodding, she went back to the hood. Unlatched it, then after checking everything she realized that the link to the battery terminal was disconnected. She connected it as he watched in awe. Then she suggests, “Go start it.”

He was shocked when he turned the key and his car sang like Taylor Swift’s number one hit song. He turned off the car and restarted it again as she closed the hood securely.

He turned off the engine, then said after stepping out to open the door on the left for her, “Your father was a mechanic, he wanted a son but got a daughter instead. So, he taught you everything about cars,” he said smiling at her.

Smiling, while nodding, Cera said, “And your mother is a fortunate teller or a wise old owl.”

“Actually, she was a psychic,” he grinned, pulling away after she fastened her seat belt.

“Did you learn anything from her?”

“Oh yes,” he said slowing down at the light. “I learned that what your friend just did will cost her dearly!”

Staring at him oddly, she remarked, “Would you believe it’s my car she is driving.”

He held tightly to the steering wheel, saying, “Then she will pay twice. Thank you for stopping to help me. Where can I take you?” he asked.

“Franklyn Communications. We have a job interview,” she informs him glancing at her Apple watch.

“Is that why she drove away and left you?” he questions.

Cera nodded, then said, “I might not make it, but she will.”

“Maybe not,” he hinted.

“Is that what your inherited psychic abilities say?”

“More or less,” he said with a weird smile as he slowed down joining a long line of traffic.

“Damn!” Cera said hitting the right dashboard. “Now I am sure I won’t make it.” Her eyes were on the long line of traffic ahead of them.

“Can you call and tell them you will be late?”

“That’s not a good first impression. They did warn us about being on time because of the number of applicants,” she recalls.

Half an hour after waiting in traffic, her cell phone rang. It was Denova’s mom’s number.

“Hello,” Cera answered.

“You are alive! Thank God!” Denova’s mother's frantic voice called out.
