A Cup of Sugar
In the olden days, she would have been called a witch. She lived alone in a cottage on a plot of green land by the Seine. Her days were spent in the company of the bees and the chickens she tended. As evening drew near, her knees were always brown from the dirt of her garden, where she grew potatoes and carrots and fresh herbs for her dinner table.

The Earth breathed. Kurt paused his search for blacksticks to feel it as he always did. Saying Earth still breathed would be generous. What brushed over him as he trudged towards the bottom of the next hill was weaker than a breath, but definitely not a death rattle. Kurt thought Earth would spin on for many seasons after he had become just more dust.

Wrath of a God
Governor Augustus Richmond was nothing short of annoyed. The thieving filth of the land stole his beloved’s most dear piece of refined jewelry, a diamond-encrusted heart-shaped locket. It wasn’t so large as to be gaudy, but enough so as to flaunt their wealth and power, to show off that she towered above the vermin that were of lesser bloodlines. Those animals, he thought to himself. His personal police force, which he would joyfully refer to as his smiting hand, scoured the ghetto in search of the prized piece of sterling and diamond. To think I was REWARDING them by allowing them presence at my inauguration.

Look to Your Star
The year is 2097. A lone figure bundled up in several layers of clothes walks over the snow covered land of what was once the Nevada desert just two decades earlier. Using his spear as a walking stick he approaches the top of a cliff, one that didn’t exist 18 years ago. He is still amazed at how much of the topography of what was his state has changed, let alone how different life is now.
