Kye The Cursed
Kye a young, tall, handsome, well-spoken warrior coming up to his 21st birthday in two weeks, spent most of his days training. When he turns 21, he’ll be up for the commander position in the Gardenia army, an honor he has been working for since first joining the warrior’s army as a young boy. Electus being two weeks older than Kye, was also a young, tall and a handsome warrior, but he had no problem, bending the rules when he pleased. Growing up in Gardenia is something only imagined in fairy tales. With the land so green it almost glistens through the rays of the sun. The fresh farmed food, the air having its own natural crisp sweet smell, the clear lakes, and stunning waterfalls.
One particularly La Cataracta or La Cata, for short, which is said to have magical water falling from it. The moon rising above La Cata reflects a silver luminous moon every night back to the sky. Reaching La Cata, at the top of the dark-forest highest peak is something not many have been able to live to tell, but Kye has always heard the story from his grandfather. Aragon a Grand Elder Warrior, who has raised kye since he was two. Kyes parents had passed away in a boating accident, Marina being Aragon’s only child, he has been the only family Kye has known, besides his best friend Electus. Electus meaning chosen one has always been outspoken, witty and a bit of a troublemaker. For as long as Kye can remember it has been him and Electus, brothers for life. Connected through the warrior blood bond ritual done at the age 13, that everyone young warrior has to do with a similar. A similar is a person who is the similar to another person, rather a best friend, cousin, brother or sister, someone who connects to you, thinks like you, fights with you, becoming blood bonded gives them the ability to sense each other, when something is off, or someone is hurt, feeling the other as they are both one connected.
Though Electus was a great warrior, he was not looking forward to a stiff life of duties. He had always joked around with Kye, saying “there has got to be more to live, then work.” The only thing he was excited for was the chance to go out and have a fun time with his best friend. Electus snuck the two off to go to the Malus village before their 21st birthday, to party before their duties became their whole life as he explained to Kye. Kye didn’t mind, he was excited to be the commander, being in charge at such a young age was an honor.
Malus village was, dark, dirty, people lived in the streets the only lights where from the whore houses, bars, far off houses and the night sky’s moon light. Going into a bar for the first time in his life Kye was uncomfortable and decided to let Electus have his fun. He went for a walk down the road, and that is when he seen her. Victoria, the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Later finding out she was the Princess of Gardenia, looking to do just the same, hide from life, if that was possible. The princess was to be married in three weeks to a man 12 years older than her, whom she had met twice.
Victoria was 18 years old had beautiful light brown skin, with black curly hair, brown eyes, and the most radiant smile imaginable. When Kye saw Victoria, it was like the whole world stopped, the light suddenly shined through the night’s clouds, she was so graceful and humble. As when Victoria seen Kye, it was love at first site, her heart stopped and she couldn’t catch her breath, thinking how handsome Kye was, his babyface had facial hair growing into a bread and his smile could stop time, his eyes so deep when he spoke it was an instant connection.
Kye and Victoria fell instantly in love, finding out who Victoria was and how she was to be married, Kye couldn’t bear the thought of her with another. As Victoria would sneak daily out to meet Kye at different places threw out the day, by day 5 her hand maiden had become curious as to where she was running off to. Mrs. Eni’vay was a 28-year-old woman, who had become her hand maiden some years back. She came from a small village a few days away from the castle.
Following Victoria to a pond out past the gates, Mrs. Eni’vay was surprised to see her in the arm of Kye, one of Gardenias most honorable warriors. Shocked and surprised she crept away, unknowing what to do. Later that night she decided it was best to tell the Queen. Queen A’marey was a kind, gentle, respected woman, and she knew she needed to confide this new information to her, with days until the wedding. As Mrs. Eni’vay explained what she had saw, the Queen began to shed tears. Explaining she never intended for her daughter to be in a loveless marriage, but the kingdom was broke. After the king had passed, she needed her daughter to marry, well-off so no one would know.
Kye and Victoria having no idea they had been seen together continued to meet each other, planning to run away to be together. With only two days before the wedding, they had decided to meet up at midnight, by the pond outside the gates. Mrs. Eni’vay knowing that Victoria had no idea about the kingdom being broke and that the Queen did not have it in her to stop her daughter, she came up with a plan.
Before bed that night, she had given Victoria her herbal tea, but had slipped in a sleeping elixir. Meeting Kye at the pond in Victoria’s place, Mrs. Eni’vay wanted to explain everything to Kye. After hearing her out, he didn’t care, he wanted to speak to Victoria and was headed to the castle. Not realizing Mrs. Eni’vay had slipped a type of poison to him when she shook his hand upon entering. Kye was mad, confused and heartbroken, all he wanted to do was speak to Victoria.
While he was walking, back to the castle to find Victoria, he passed out. When Kye had awoke he was in the dark-forest, and he was an owl. A barn owl to be exact. As Kye was freaking out trying to find his ways back to the kingdom he flew over a lake, seeing his reflection. He had a white heart shaped face, white chest, light brown feathers, and dark brown eyes. Finally making it back to the kingdom, he seen the pond outside the gates was burnt, the flowers and trees around it was now black, burnt and ashes.
As he flew over the castle, he realized the setting in the back of the castle was still set for the wedding. He went to find Electus, as he did, he seen her Victoria on the balcony of the castle. As beautiful as the night stars, but she was crying, as he flew closer, he seen Mrs. Eni’vay, coming with tea. He went on to find Electus, when he found him, he sat at a window, overhearing him and his grandfather Aragon. The words being said were even scarier then waking up an owl. Kye has died in the forest fire, he overheard, Electus mad yelling “It’s not true, my brother, I can feel him alive”. Aragon trying to comfort Electus, said “Don’t do anything foolish, control yourself, in order to honor Kyes name we will continue with our duties.”
Kye freaked out yelling and both his grandfather and best friend had seen him, but all that was coming out was a scratching noise. Aragon had lost his mind, yelling and waving his arms for the owl to get out of there. Kye flew inside yelling at them, “It’s Me, It’s Kye”. The guys grabbed broom sticks and covers swinging it at the owl. Finally, he flew back out and back around to where he had seen Victoria. Seeing her setting on the balcony even crying she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Wanting to scream and talk to her, but he couldn’t, not after what happened with the guys, his family.
Hearing of the owl situation Mrs. Eni’vay had started to spell the castle, pouring a rare salt around the premises. This salis salt is made to keep out unwanted guest or animals. Kye was so heartbroken and confused, he didn’t know what to do or where to go. He screamed so loud flying above the castle in circles, everyone came out to look at the scene being made. Handmaidens, servants, the Queen, warriors that were in the castle hoarded out. No one knew what was going on, until they were instructed to shoot the owl as it was a sign of a bad omen. The owl was heard all night, but no one had seen it sense they started shooting in the air.
The next day was the wedding, Victoria heartbroken still went through with the wedding. Unsure of anything, completely heartbroken and feeling Kyes death was her fault. Her real love Kye had died at the very place she was supposed to meet him.
The evening of the wedding it rained, so the celebration was cut short. Before, Victoria and the new King was able to get into the carriage to leave for their honeymoon, the owl was seen flying in circles above it. Heard screeching in the air from miles away. Stories say that barn owls are known to hoot as a warning, hiss at times, known to be territorial and warn of predators. Others believe it could be lost loves like Kye looking for his way back to Victoria, being cursed to live as an owl, wearing the mark of love on his face forever, the white heart.
