She sat quietly in the corner of the room, considering the choices she had made. As she watched the commotion play out in front of her, she caught her reflection in the glass of the hospital's vending machine. She looked tattered, and bruised, but beyond the surface, she saw her power, and she smiled.

She played back the scene in her head, the aggressive nature of his tone and the burning in her eye as he landed his first blow. She remembered the look of shock on his face as she fought back, she had never done that before, and she would remember that look, for the rest of her life.

She had no other choice, he had promised that this would be the last time, but she knew that he meant, this would be the last one she would survive, and she felt justified. Justifight, the new phrase she told herself to stay focused on abandoning the flight part of fight or flight.

She could no longer flee, she had to be strong. She had to survive. Her daughter's future depended on it. Who would protect her from the same fate? She had to be bold enough for them both.

So, when he snuck into the back door, like he had done so many times before, she was ready. And she gave him what he came for.

No longer just a fight but justified in justifight.

I love the word, so justified. I know two women who stabbed the men, one never did it again, the other, the narcissist, wants pity from everyone. It's about time, stand up to the bullies, but be careful.
