"Oh, come, Darcy, I must have you dance!"

Fitzwilliam Darcy, who was perfectly happy watching the dancers without participating, now that he had done his duty to Miss Bingley and Mrs Hurst, could think of nothing he would like less.

Still, Bingley was his friend, and bad first impressions were difficult to reform. One dance would not be his end, and perhaps word would spread of his dislike of the activity. "Very well, Bingley. Pray introduce me to someone."

Bingley led him to two women, one fine-eyed and impertinent, one somewhat plain. "Mr Darcy, may I introduce Miss Elizabeth Bennet."
