You know once we found out that aliens existed in our galaxy we thought we could win if they tried to invade us. However, we didn’t know how wrong we were until it was too late. The year is 2206 about 150 years after the fall of the United States of America, England, Germany, China and Russia. Once these great countries fell after World War Three, the leaders came together and created a unified nation they called the United Federation. Ever since then, we as a nation stopped invading countries on earth, we started conquering space. That is when the United Space Command Federation was created. About a hundred years later our worst fear became a reality; we found a planet with stable life. We called it planet HF 56-45. The creatures that lived there called it Talteria. Everything was perfect for a few years until the Talterians realized their planet was dying and they needed to find a new one.
They came and invaded earth and started killing everyone on earth until there were no more, well until they thought there were no more. There is still a small group of us of former USCF soldiers, there is Lieutenant Martin Scott, Flight Officer Alexia Davers, and Me; Captain Jackson Dainelson we are the last survivors of our unit the 152nd Command Squadron. We were tasked with taking cavalry units beyond enemy lines to gather intel. Our ship was shot down some were near New Moscow, where Washington D.C. used to be. It’s sad to see our home planet like this in ruins after the Talterians dropped Tenntonic Bombs, which is about a thousand times more powerful than the nukes America dropped on Japan during World War Two, all over the world wiping out billions of people.
Today is just like any other day for us three as we look for more survivors of the war. Besides us three we have found a small group of freedom fighters who call themselves Spartis, which is basically a modern day Greek Spartan. We were walking down Hoover Street when we came to a pile of about six or seven dead bodies. I looked around the pile to see if I could find anything of value we could melt down for armor or weapons. I picked up a few watches and rings but nothing really that we could salvage. Alexia, who was a beautiful young officer who was not much shorter than me, bent down to pick up something off the ground. When she did her necklace fell out of her shirt around her neck and dangled. It was a small golden heart shaped locket that she wore. She grabbed it and tucked it back in her shirt. She then stood back up holding a little brown stuffed bear. I walked over to her and stared at the stuffed toy. It was missing its left eye and right arm. I looked up at her for a second before I spoke.
“Hey, you ok?” I asked as she glared up at me and shoved the bear into her bag.
“Yeah, It's just the bear reminded me of my little girl. She was killed in the bombing of Western Europe.” She said as Martin walked over to us carrying a couple metal bars.
“I’m sorry to hear that, I know your pain I lost my wife during the North American bombings.” I said as I put my hand on her shoulder. I looked up over to Martin who was struggling to shove the bars into his bag. I walked over to him and helped him hold open his bag so he could place the bars inside. He placed the bars in the bag and grabbed the bag from me, slinging it over his shoulder. We heard a loud crash in an alleyway not too far from us. I drew my XR-4 combat blaster pistol, it was six inches in length and was the main pistol that was issued to officers, I had holstered on my right thigh. We made our way towards the sound as we raised our weapons towards the sounds. We stopped at the entryway of the alley. Alexia was behind me and to the right, Martin was to the left. They came forward to be aligned to me, I turned on my flashlight attachment to my pistol. The light filled the alley but nothing was there but a dumpster and a couple rats. Then I heard moving behind us; I quickly turned around and saw a Talterian standing just a few feet away from us. It was about seven foot tall with black and red skin, fangs and a dozen horns all over its head and face. The other two turned around and pointed their blaster rifles at the creature. A blaster shot rang in the air as I felt a painful sting in my left arm. I looked down and I could see a blaster cut and blood on the sleeve of my jacket. I looked back up and the Talterian had his arm raised with a blade as Alexia shot them five times in the chest.
“Look four more coming towards us,” Martin said as he fired his weapon. We moved behind a burnt down car. We exchanged blaster fire as they moved towards us at a sprint. One of them ducked behind a pile of broken concrete and rubble. I stuck one of the other three in the head, it fell and slammed its head on to a piece of concrete. The other two took cover behind a couple cars about two-hundred feet away from us.
“We need to get out of here, I'm almost out of ammo,” I said as I crouched behind
the car.
“Yeah, I'm completely out of ammo,” Alexia said. I stood up and fired two more shots before I ducked back down.
“Same,” Said Martin as he tossed his rifle to his side and drew his knife from his boot. “We can always make a run for it, try to get to that fire escape in the alley.”
“Okay, I will give you cover fire since I have a few shots left but the second I do you two need to run for your lives,” I said as I slammed my last cartridge into my blaster pistol. Shots from the Talterians were flying past us as I stood up squeezing my trigger ten times until I ran out of ammo. I fell back down behind the car as blaster bolts flew past my head. I looked up to the fire escape as I saw the other two climbing it. I reached in my pocket and pulled out an explosive grenade. I prayed to myself as I hoped what I thought about doing would work. However if it did work I would only have five seconds to get to that fire escape that was about a hundred feet away from me.
I pressed the button on the grenade to activate the primer as I stood up to throw it. It left my hands and I could see it fly in the air towards the Talterians. I turned to run away as I heard a loud explosion just feet away from my ear throwing me into the outside wall of the building. When I came to a few seconds later in the blurriness of my vision I could see a Talterian standing over me holding his blade over my heart. He smiled and thrusted the blade into my chest as I heard a loud scream.
“Noo!” The voice yelled as everything went black, all I could hear were the final heartbeats of mine as I escaped into death.
