I’ll be where the trees blow East

A fated meeting

By Jalynne Carter Published 4 years ago 2 min read

Once a year I’d have a dream about a lady. I’ve been dreaming about this lady since the day I could remember. Skin so deep and rich, hair so grey and kinky she was truly beautiful. After all of these years dreaming about her, I’ve never spoken to her. I’ve only watched her from afar dancing under the sun in a field of sunflowers. She always looked so at peace with her eyes always remaining shut as her body moved so effortlessly with the breeze. She would always disappear when the breeze was still. I’m going to talk to her this time.

Pitch black I hear an angelic humming as the wind bells chimed in the distance and a gentle spring breeze caresses my face, I’m here. Finally opening my eyes to seeing she was not in her usual spot in the field of sunflowers. Looking around for her I see a note:

“𝙼𝚢 𝙳𝚎𝚊𝚛𝚎𝚜𝚝 𝚑𝚘𝚗𝚎𝚢 𝚋𝚎𝚎,

𝚂𝚘 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚏𝚒𝚗𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚢 𝚌𝚊𝚖𝚎 𝚝𝚘 𝚝𝚊𝚕𝚔 𝚝𝚘 𝚖𝚎 𝚊𝚏𝚝𝚎𝚛 𝚊𝚕𝚕 𝚘𝚏 𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚜𝚎 𝚢𝚎𝚊𝚛𝚜. 𝙾𝚑, 𝚑𝚘𝚠 𝚎𝚡𝚌𝚒𝚝𝚎𝚍 𝙸 𝚊𝚖 𝚝𝚘 𝚜𝚎𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚋𝚎𝚊𝚞𝚝𝚒𝚏𝚞𝚕 𝚏𝚊𝚌𝚎 𝚊𝚐𝚊𝚒𝚗. 𝙸𝚏 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚠𝚊𝚗𝚝 𝚝𝚘 𝚜𝚎𝚎 𝚖𝚎 𝙸’𝚕𝚕 𝚋𝚎 𝚠𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚎 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚝𝚛𝚎𝚎𝚜 𝚋𝚕𝚘𝚠 𝙴𝚊𝚜𝚝. “

Looking up at the trees I follow the breeze East. The trees lead me into a field of lavender where there was a white table full of tapes and an old VCR tv in the middle. On the table I see a tape that sticks out titled 𝙷𝚘𝚗𝚎𝚢 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝙻𝚊𝚟𝚎𝚗𝚍𝚎𝚛. I play it to see me as a kid in a Lavender field dancing. While watching the tapes I felt a hand lightly touch my shoulder with the smoothest warmest tone I hear “Hey honey bee” she said. I turned to see it was her, the lady in the field of sunflowers.

“Why do you call me Honey bee?” I asked.

“Because, when you were a little girl you use to think when the bees were flying around you they were trying to dance with you. Until one day you got stung and didn’t like them anymore.” she let out a chuckle.

“How do you know me but I don’t remember you?” I asked.

“Well, you were so little at the time I wouldn’t expect you to remember me. I was your moms bestfriend from middle school throughout high school we were inseparable. See when you were four I fell ill. I was too weak to visit you or your mother anymore and that broke my heart. So I just let go and I’ve been visiting once a year on my birthday and watching over you since.” She said with tears in her eyes.

“Whats wrong?” I asked.

“When you were a kid I remember taking you to this field of lavender. Seeing you dance with the bees and just seeing your sweet face light up as the sun hit your beautiful brown skin.” she said with tears filling her eyes more.

I gave her the biggest hug feeling the tears fall on me. “I love you so much honey bee..” She said.

I held her so tight feeling only the breeze and hearing only the beating of her heart until we felt the breeze stop. With the saddest look on her face she said “It’s time for you to go now. Remember, I’m always around and I’ll be back to visit you.” She gave me a hug and a kiss on the forehead laid me down on a bed of lavender as I drifted to sleep I said “I’ll always remember you when the trees blow East”.
