Marvin Grant and his 9 year old son Mason are walking into the Four Seasons mall ready to go to the KB Toys toy store. As they enter the mall through the store Dillard’s they make note of the enormous crowd. “Dad it’s a circus in here” Mason remarked. “I know baby boy” Marvin joked. “But you said you wanted that new X-Men toy from the movie.”
“Yeah I do, but I ain’t ready to die for it pop” Mason replied sarcastically. “Come on champ” Marvin began. “We’re gonna make it through this holiday madness so we can get to that store and get you that Buzz Lightyear toy you’ve been wanting, you ready kid?”
“I’m ready pop” Mason replied as they readied themselves to run through the crazy mall crowd of Christmas. As they began working their way through the crowd there was almost no place for them to walk. The crowd was so thick that they barely lost one another even though they were standing right next to each other. “I got you, Mase” Marvin called out as they power walked through the busy crowd. “We got one more floor to go, dad. KB toys is on the top floor” Mason called out.
While holding Mason by the hand Marvin caught sight of the escalator. “”COME ON MASE” Marvin yelled out. Marvin and Mason took off running full speed ahead for the escalator. When they neared it by what seemed like fifty feet they found that the escalator was packed to capacity. There was no way on for them. “”DANGIT!” Marvin screamed while out of breath. He looked around and to his right he could see a lone elevator in the distance. “DAD THE ELEVATOR!” Mason screamed as he eyed it at the sane time as his father. The two took off running once more towards the elevator.
As Marvin and Mason sped towards the elevator they could see a handful of individuals also making their way to the elevator. In a nick of time they both quickly entered the elevator with five other people as the elevator doors closed on the large group of angry people behind them. Marvin and Mason leaned over to catch their breath as the other people in the elevator talked among themselves. “Don’t worry dad” Mason started while putting his hand on Marvin’s arm. “We’re almost at the KB and we’re gonna get that Buzz Lightyear. “I’m right there with you, kid” Marvin replied.
The elevator made it to the top floor stopped right in front of KB Toys. Marvin and Mason dramatically stood side by side like two warriors preparing themselves for a battle. “You ready, Mase?” Marvin asked. “I’m ready Freddy” Mason replied. Both of them quickly exited the elevator and made their way inside of KB Toys which was a war zone packed with children and parents.
Mason and Marvin anxiously searched for the Buzz Lightyear you among a crowd of dozens. Mason looked up to his right and found one Buzz Lightyear toy sitting on the top shelf of the isle just ten feet away. “DAD THERE IT IS” he screamed. As Marvin eyed the toy he also found another father eyeing the toy and him as well. From opposite sides of the room the two fathers took off running towards the toy. Just as it seemed the other father was going to claim it first he suddenly slipped on a toy that fell off one of the shelves, allowing Marvin to quickly grab hold of the Buzz Lightyear toy. “YOU DID IT DAD!” Mason screamed in glee. Marvin chuckled with relief as the pair quickly ran to register to check out the toy.
Marvin and Mason finally made it out of the mall with smiles of accomplishment on their faces. “We did it, Mase” Marvin said. “No dad, YOU did it” Mason replied as he gave his dad a big hi-five”. The two got in Marvin’s car and drove off in happiness that they had survived the chaos of the holiday.

I am so glad that he got his toy!!!! Nice read.
Loved this bonding time for father and son. I wonder if every time Dad saw Buzz Lightyear, he remembered his success. Great stuff!
Brilliant story ♦️♦️♦️♦️♦️
Seemed similar to Jingle all the way with Arnold Schwarzenegger??
Great story! Malls used to be kind of hectic, reminds me of growing up in the 90s and raising my son in the early 2000s ✨️
