Leaving
(Brandy)
A few days passed, that felt like weeks honestly, but now it was all becoming real. I was loading my bags in the car praying they would all fit, Alpha Shadow didn’t specify how long I would be needed so I packed for the long haul. Asher has barely spoken to me, I tried to keep my mind off of it as I needed to focus. Loading the last bag I get lost in thought, thinking about why this is so hard for Ash to cope with, I mean I am coming back.
You need to go talk to him -Midnights says, as she reads my mind, damn wolf. Do I get no private thoughts -I snarl. Not as long as you have me babes -she calls me that to butter me up, as that name makes me giddy. I roll my eyes as I make my way into the Pack house, walking up to the Alphas floor hoping Ash was in his office.
Knock Knock
“Yes Brandy?” I hear a husky voice say.
I ease my way inside the door, not really having anything prepared to say. “Do you wanna go on a run?” I blurted out, I panicked and had nothing to say to him honestly. “I know you have your feelings about me leaving, but..but you icing me out isn’t fair and I need my best friend!” At this point I'm yelling as I try to hold back tears, while feeling embarrassed at my own emotions.
He doesn’t break eye contact with me as he slowly gets up from his desk, I feel him grab me and pull me forward into a massive hug. “Awe Brandy, I didn’t realize how selfish I was, it's not fair to you.” he says as he looks at me with his big brown eyes, so close I can feel his body heat radiating off of me.
I take a step back as I collect myself, even though I could have stayed in his arms forever. “Lets go running, we can run the East trail by the creek, I love the view from up there.” I say as I try to lighten the mood between us, “Tag your it.” I say with a laugh as I sprint out of his office, while unzipping my Jacket. I hear him behind me saying that's not fair, but I’m too far ahead to care.
Once outside I leap and shift while mid air, goddess that never gets old. I book it to the East gliding through the forest, feeling invincible, I hear Midnight howling out loud as she's taking in the crisp afternoon air. I can feel my heart racing as I maneuver and dodge through the trees, with every breath I feel the cool air in my lungs. I hear howling in the distance, imagining it's probably Asher gaining on me. I turn over my shoulder and see the pair of sky blue eyes piercing at me, Finn. Asher has these big brown eyes, I call them cow eyes, but Finn has these sky blue eyes that remind me of the sea.
C'mon slow poke! I’m going easy on you - Midnight howls at Finn, who responds by giving a playful mid-air nip.
I think it’s Asher, boy’s gaining some weight on me - Finn boasts as I can only imagine the irritation in Asher's face, I scan Finn's face for any hint but nothing.
After a while we reach the peak, we get to the stream, Midnight and Finn enjoy some much needed water. I decide to shift back into my human form, confusing Finn who is now looking at me with concern, I pay no mind as I go behind a tree and change into a sports bra and shorts I carried here. I emerge and look at Finn, his eyes following me as I walk along the creek hopping on rocks. I dip my toe in before running at full speed ahead, Splash, I dive straight into the water. I laugh as I start treading water splashing it at Finn, who looks very unimpressed. I see him disappear for a second, thinking I irritated him, Finn is a hot head unlike Asher. Seconds later I see Asher appear, my face lights up.
“Ok ok I don’t have any clothes, I usually have stashes around the pack grounds, but I didn’t think we were swimming. He says as I see him holding a leaf over his junk, I have to put my face somewhat in the water, as I can feel my cheeks heat up. I get out of the water and go to the small pack I brought with me, oh goddess…
I start laughing out loud as I pull out the only other thing I had, I look at him as I am holding some neon green sweatpants. “I mean, it’s either these, or you're going to partake in some skinny dipping.” I say as I feel my cheeks heat up again, he looks at me while raising an eyebrow. Why did I just say that? I need to really learn the whole foot in mouth thing.
I mean I can’t say that I mind -Midnight purrs as she's doing flips in my head. You're bad! - I scold as I continue holding these neon green pants.
He motions at me and I throw the pants, he catches them and I see him instantly turn red. After a minute I see him emerge, and oh goddess I want to say it was the best day of my life. The pants hung from his V-line as I see his calves are doing everything they can to contain him, all while you can noticeably see the once long sweats have turned into homemade shorts. I burst out laughing, tears are visibly streaming from my face.
I hear him growl in visible annoyance, but I don’t even care that nothing can ruin this moment. “If Jake or Luke ever find out, I think I might just kill you myself.” Gritting his teeth I finally stop, I just want to swim, and I can’t make him feel too bad. We both pounce in the creek, taking in the cold Autumn water as I look over at Asher, I never want this to end.

I watch Brandy splash in the water, her hair flying everywhere, I can’t stop staring. Dude either kiss her already or stop ogling - I can hear Finn laughing in my head, stupid wolf I growl. Don’t get mad at me for pointing out the obvious - He’s not wrong as much as I don’t want to admit it, but I couldn’t ruin what we have. I find myself getting lost in my thoughts, I feel someone smack my arm. I shake my head and see Brandy looking at me.
“Hey wanna head up to the rocks, we can see the town from up there.” Her eyes light up which warms my heart, I nodded as she led the way. We use the word ‘town’ to describe the human community, us wolves are friendly with them but we keep our identity hidden so as to not cause issues between worlds. Brandy grabs my hand, making me flinch a little, she flashes her eyes at me giving me a soft smile. “Ok look! You can see the world from up here.” I looked over her shoulder, she wasn’t wrong, the scenery was breathtaking.
“Brandy I can’t believe you found this spot, I have been around our entire pack and patrolled hundreds of times. I never knew about this place.”
“It’s been my hidden little oasis, I never wanted anyone to know. I stumbled upon it one day while practicing my tracking.” She says not looking at me, I see her piercing green eyes looking into the horizon.
I grab Brandy’s wrist and turn her towards me, I just need her to know how I feel before she leaves. Don’t scare her -Finn growls in my head, and it makes me stop for a second. “I just wanted you to know, I will always be there for you, Silver Fox will always be your home.” I pause, trying to read her facial expressions before I continue. “I know my behavior has been odd to you the past few days, I was just trying to gather my own thoughts.” I see her expressions go soft, which makes me want to melt. “I guess what I’m trying to say is…. I was just scared to lose my best friend and didn’t know how to express that.” I see her face slightly change, I know this isn’t what she was hoping I’d say, but I changed my mind. You i**t - Finn barks, I completely ignore him.
She turns without saying a word, just sits down. I copy her as I feel her put her head on my shoulder. “Sometimes I think I could live up here, where life is free and simple.” She starts saying as I feel the softness in her tone, while slightly closing her eyes. “Sometimes I imagine I’m a bird soaring through the clouds, looking down on everyone and watching their stories play out.” She looks up to the sky with almost an eagerness about her, for a moment I feel as though she is unhappy. “If you found your mate, do you think you could live up there forever.” She points as if daydreaming, looking at her not sure if she wants me to answer.
I pull her close and kiss her forehead, taking in her wet hair and pine needle scent. “If I could live forever with the love of my life, there isn’t anywhere I wouldn’t go.” I sigh as I look at her while she continues to take in the view, if only she knew who I was really talking about.
Welcome to Blue Moon
(Brandy)
Driving through the gates of Blue Moon pack is a bittersweet moment, I just kept replaying my goodbye to Asher, so sweet and so sad. Midnight has been quiet all day, I can tell she misses Finn, and who am I to tell her not to.
“Brandy Dear.” I hear as I open the car door, I see Luna Isa striding toward me, with her arms extended. “I hope the trip went well, I have arranged for a guest room to be set up for you on the Alphas floor.” For a second my eyes widened as I looked at her, I wasn’t expecting to be on the Alpha floor, I mean I am at Silver Fox but that is because of my position.
“Oh thank you, but I don’t have to be on the Alpha floor. I wouldn’t want to impose.” I make a small gesture with my hands, I barely know anyone in this pack, the last thing I want is to get on anyone's nasty side. This isn’t our pack, if anyone gives us Sh*t I will rip them to shreds -Midnight gives a loud growl, and it honestly took me back for a minute. She is going through a lot however one thing about being here, we aren’t part of this pack. Meaning there is no ‘bond’ holding us, so if Midnight gets pissed she might actually kill someone. We are guests here, yes we are helping them, but guests nonetheless - I scowled, for which she returns with a low growl. I wouldn't be surprised if she iced me out for a few days, I can’t figure out why she is so upset, it’s not like we are leaving our mate.
“Now don’t be silly, you are doing us a great favor. I personally insist, plus your room is closest to the snack bar.” She says while winking at me and giggling, it’s no secret that wolves are constantly eating as we extend our bodies daily. I return her wink with a giggle and gather my bags, I let her take the lead as she motions towards the elevator. All pack houses are big, they are like giant mansions, however not every pack house has the same layout. Something that does mostly look the same in every house, the housing floors do look more like hotel room levels. The Alpha floor however is large and very roomy, its carpeted and more looks like a mini house. It looks like if a club scene met the Godfather, that is the style of house this looks like. I pause in awe to take it all in, Isa notices I have stopped and am looking around.
“I have been meaning to re-paint this floor, and I can’t decide if I should change the carpet color. I just haven’t had time with everything going on, once I am retired I shall see to it. Not many girls around here, maybe you could help me with samples some day?” I see Isa gazing at the walls and scrunching her nose, not hiding her displacement with the look.
“I would love to help you, whenever you are ready I will make myself available to you Luna.” I say acting like I knew anything about décor, I will admit my mother did all the color matching for my room. Once I moved into the Pack house it was already all painted, I can’t help but wonder why she would want my help. We passed a few rooms I assume belonged to Brodie and Taylor. I seemed to get along well with those two so I was hopeful about a new friendship, plus since I’ll be working closely with them both it helps we are on the same floor. We stop at a long hallway, it's well lit, and at the end I see a nice shiny door.
That is my son's room, Max. I don’t believe you have had the pleasure of meeting him. He was away on business, but he will be here tomorrow sometime. We have informed him all about you, if I am not around tomorrow I am sure you will meet tomorrow night at dinner if not before then.” Isa says as she turns to me, and puts a hand lightly on my shoulder. “Now you listen here, he is a good boy but if he is rude to you or steps out of line.” She sighs as she looks at me. “You come and get me, no child of mine will be disrespectful, especially to our treasured guest, that boy isn’t Alpha yet.” I nod at her as she turns and keeps walking.
We arrived at a plain white door with a cute little handmade pink sign that read ‘Brandy Lee’ . The sign was so cute I couldn’t help but smile. I opened the door and was shocked, the room was so big. In the middle was a queen bed with sky themed bedding, and the walls were painted white with a bunch of mountains and trees painted over top. I glanced to see my own bathroom, I didn’t know if they gave me a private bathroom cuz it came with the room, or cuz I was the only female on this floor.
“I hope this closet is big enough for all of your stuff, I had it cleared out. I will say there are a lot of dresses I kept in there as a gift, don’t feel forced to ever wear them. I bought them and then realized, they just weren’t for me so maybe you can get use to them.” I see as Isa is motioning towards the closet, I peak in and my eyes go wide. It’s an entire walk-in closet! I glance up to the shelves and see the dresses she was talking about, oh goddess these were drop dead gorgeous. I want to pinch myself but don’t, I’ll wait for Isa to leave. “I will leave you to unpack, I am sorry but we already ate dinner. We weren’t sure when to expect you, but I did leave a plate and some leftovers for you in the kitchen.” I see her say as she gives a sad expression, it makes me feel a little guilty.
“That’s my fault I didn’t let anyone know, honestly I am a bit tired anyhow.” I gave her a warm smile which softens her expression, and I honestly was planning to eat and go straight to bed. She leaves my room swinging the door shut, as I let out a big sigh and plot on the bed. All I wanted was to fade into darkness, but after hearing my stomach gurgle I knew I had to eat. I unpack my things then get into my PJs, before heading out the door.
I navigate my skills and finally make it to the kitchen, trying to find the food left for me, not really knowing where everything is yet. I swear I can track a rogue for miles and not get a tinge of anger, but trying to find this food made me want to punch a wall and rip my hair out. After rummaging around the 4 different fridges I see a couple plates, one has a cute little hand written note ‘Brandy’s food No Touching’ I laugh out loud taking the food out. I sat and started scarfing my food down, not caring since no one was around me.
All the sudden I heard loud thudding coming towards the kitchen, it sounded like an elephant was coming honestly. It immediately got me on alert, as not many people here know me and I don’t know what to expect. I relax and sigh as soon as I see Brodie and Taylor, they came barreling in the kitchen in what looked like a wrestling match.
They both see me but don’t stop, I think they were also arguing but I wasn’t listening. “Brandy! Can you please settle a debate for us?” Brodie asks me as I see him take his chair and sit on it backwards, I nearly choke on my food as I didn’t expect them to talk to me.
“I can do my best, but no one is allowed to hate me afterwards.” I say with a laugh, as I wash my food down with some juice.
“Ok so Taylor over here thinks Pixar is better than Disney.” I can’t help but let out a laugh, thinking I was going to fall out of my seat. These guys are really children, and it's becoming very adorable.
The guys are looking at me so intensely, as if this argument is going to solve world peace. “I personally am a Disney fan through and through, HOWEVER I very much adore Pixar films like ‘Finding Nemo’.” I say and sorta sit back in my chair, feeling really good about my answer. I see Taylor look defeated and Brodie looking like he won the lottery.
“I knew Disney was better.” I see Brodie howl as he gets up from his chair, taking his baseball cap off and throwing it. “Thanks a lot Brandy, he’s never going to let this go.” Taylor retorts at me, I put my hands up in surrender as he gives me a chuckle.
After Brodie comes back to earth, they both look at me a little more seriously then I was expecting. “While we have you here, I wanted to go over stuff with you about training and what not.” Brodie says as he gets a Bud light from the fridge, I give him a nod as my mouth is full of mashed potatoes. “We were thinking tomorrow just take the day since you just got here, give you a chance to look around and get to know the grounds.” Then Taylor chimes in, “we have informed all our warriors and Omegas of you already, but when you come to train you can reintroduce yourself. To give you a rough estimate we have around 400 warriors, we are hoping come winter time we can increase that number. By early Spring the goal is to have doubled that number, as we have more land to protect we are in need of more warriors ASAP.” He pauses to look at me, scanning my face to see if I am taking in all of his information. At this point they are both testing me, and I know it.
“I’d say with three of us now we could hold twice as many training sessions, as well pull warriors to help. How many warriors do we have currently at each perimeter at a time?” I say now fully done with my food sitting straight up, I’ll admit sometimes I enjoy the shocked look on people’s faces when they realize I am more than a pretty face.
“We currently own 200 square miles of land now with the Northern border we acquired, and we currently have 4 warriors for every 34 miles in 6 hour shifts. We don’t want our men getting burnt out, but at the same time with some much vast land, those numbers need to be doubled, if we have a rogue attack the others can’t always get there in time.” Taylor and Brodie are both eyeing me, as I process all the information very carefully. I didn’t realize the turmoil they may soon be in if we don’t find a solution.
“First off I think it would be very beneficial for some of the warrior Omegas to try our people, I know that every wolf is taught basic skill but that may not be enough. Until we can train more Omegas and increase our numbers, the safest thing we can do for this pack is make sure everyone can fight properly. I would even go as far as sending young pups out with some trained Omegas and running some drills in the forest, the faster they can move and internalize their instincts the better. As far as training for the new recruits, I don’t know this pack yet, so I do not know how many possible recruits we could obtain. I am sure one of you has probably taken care of that. When we figure out the exact number we can find a schedule that works for everyone, and not use unnecessary resources. I want to make my time here as valuable to you all as possible, I think the first step is going through some training in a few days with the warriors and see what we are working with. I want to get a feel for what these guys know, that way I can see if they will be adequate in training the new recruits.” I pause and take another drink of juice without breaking eye contact. Now it was my turn to see if they were paying attention to me.
Taylor and Brodie are giving each other a glance, and most likely mink linking with each other mental notes. They turn back to me and Brodie says, “before you come we will get a head count for new recruits, once you get a lay of the land we can start doing practices. I will admit I don’t even have a rough estimate about numbers, we don’t accept warriors here under 17 so I will have to go through the logs.” Becoming a warrior is by no means required, however if you're born an Omega male it is highly expected of you. “I will go over this with Alpha Max and get his feedback, training of the community might have to move at a slower pace as expanding resources is not something we can spare lightly right now,” Taylor says while sipping his bud light, I can hear him gently purr as I am sure that isn’t his first beer of the evening.
“Alpha Max? I was under the impression Blue moon hadn’t hosted his Alpha ceremony yet.” I say with a confused expression, that is very obvious. I see the boys share a glance as they both look back at me.
“Correct not yet, Alpha Shadow is still in charge. However over the last several months and with this new expansion, Alpha Shadow thought it best to Have Max step into his new role a little early. He helps handle the day to day, while the Alpha handles more of the business side. Max’s Alpha ceremony is in a few weeks though.” Brodie tells me, it doesn’t help my confusion but I drop it. We deliberate a little more, the conversation quickly becomes casual as we chat. We kept chatting as we all walked to the elevator together heading up to the Alphas floor, perks of being on the same floor as the boys. Once there I gave them both a nod as we parted ways into our own rooms.
I was so happy to finally be in my bed, and I was for sure going to sleep in. My mind raced as I couldn’t help but ponder the earlier conversation I had with the boys, why was Max acting Alpha? He is eighteen which meant he could have been appointed Alpha status awhile ago, and how is this pack so big yet their numbers so small? The math wasn’t adding up for me, how do you have 200 miles and not even a quarter of the warriors needed. How were they surviving rogue attacks with those numbers, my pack has tripled their numbers and we still have a hard time. Something was feeling off about the whole thing, too many things didn’t add up, but also the boys might have been mistaken. I can’t judge until I see for myself.
I fell into bed, thinking about the biggest decision I made and was hoping I chose well. “Tomorrow is a new day.” I say to myself, and with that, I fall into the darkness.
