(Brandy)

Ouch- I say to myself as I get thrown to the ground.

“Damn Charlie, your side swipe is really coming along nicely.” I praise the young pup as he gives me a grin, I have been working with him for a few weeks now and see real potential. I survey some of the other warriors while trying not to distract anyone.

Brandy can you meet me in my office in 30 minutes - Alpha Asher mind links me.

Sure thing Ash be right up - I link him, knowing he has hated that nickname I gave him ever since childhood.

I quickly shift and make my way to the packhouse, allowing Midnight to run a little bit. Being cooped up in the training yard isn’t fun for either of us, seeing my beautiful black wolf fur in the wind makes me feel at peace. I am the only black wolf in this pack, and it makes me feel so special.

I take the scenic route to do a quick perimeter sweep, mind linking Jake letting him know I'm going to be off my post and to send an omega to fill in for me.

Jake is the Alpha’s Beta, his second in command. We all three grew up together so we all share a very casual relationship.

I’ll sure Luke can handle it, I'll let him know - Jake says, sounding very prideful in his warriors. Luke is Asher’s Gamma, Luke’s parents and mine were best of friends, as are Jake and Luke thick as thieves.

Once at the packhouse I quickly shift and change clothes before making my way inside, I swear no matter what time of day I go in the packhouse it's always filled with wolves. The office however is on the Alphas floor, which no one is allowed on without reason.

I knock quietly to make sure nothing important is happening.

“Come on in.” I hear Alpha Asher say, pretending to not know who it is.

I walk in as he spins in his chair around giving me a side grin, I think he just enjoys showing off his big boy office sometimes.

“I was debating if you were going to show up on time.” he teases, last time I stopped by the kitchen to get myself a snack, in turn making me a little tardy.

“The kitchen was out of granola bars so I thought I’d grace you with my on time presence.” I jokingly say as I take a bow in front of him, I see him give me a playful frown, as he hates when I always have quick comebacks to his remarks.

“I heard some new recruits are being trained, and I wanted your honest report of how it’s going. I would ideally like to have this batch doing day time security sweeps as training while it’s not too dangerous.” While swirling his whiskey glass trying not to give away the eagerness in his voice.

Since I am the pack's head warrior, we have meetings from time to time to go over progress reports. I was lucky enough to learn that from my father, when he and the former Alpha John would have meetings, sometimes I got to sit in and learn.

I sit up from my chair, attempting to be as professional as possible, “The pups are doing well, working out some maneuvers and techniques. I think in a month's time they can start doing perimeter sweeps…. Accompanied by another omega until they become a bit stronger.” I can see the Alpha in some thought, I am sure he did not like my omega recommendation.

“We have strong numbers surrounding Silver Fox, I don’t think there is a reason to send the new recruits out on their own for at least a few ths.” I quickly get out with a lot more compassion in my voice than I realized. I have a soft spot for new recruits and Asher and I have disagreed in that aspect before, however I always do stand my ground knowing his say is final.

“I can mull this over with Jake and Luke, I just need to make sure we aren’t expanding unnecessary resources.” he says as he gulps down his remaining whisky. The pack is strong, but he believes more in fast progress, as where I take my time especially when it comes to training.

You should ask him to come down to the training grounds himself to spar - Midnight growls.

I do like the idea of him seeing the training first hand, I think to myself. What would you do without me - Midnight purrs as she validates herself.

“Hey, why don't you come down to the arena tomorrow and check out the recruits? Bring Jake and Luke! I am sure the recruits would love to see their Alpha, they might even step it up.” I am standing now since this has got me a bit excited. In the past he usually pops in but never really makes himself known as he likes observing more.

“Hmm, I guess popping in couldn’t hurt. I am invested and it wouldn’t hurt to spar with a few.” Asher emphasizes spar to get me riled up, he thinks I coddle my recruits and he can be a bit tough.

I look at him with a frown as I squint my eyes.

“They are still pups, they will have plenty of time to hurt themselves.” I say with a semi-serious tone. I do not enjoy inflicting unnecessary pain even though that can be part of training.

He chuckles, knowing he got the reaction he wanted. “ I am kidding, if I do train with them it’ll be in human form, pinky swear not too much harm.” I roll my eyes to which he gives a low growl, to which I let out a chuckle. Now I got my reaction.

We talk more, as it turns a little more casual, after a while he chugs his whisky and dismisses me. Sometimes I forget he is an Alpha, but still my friend which I cherish deeply.

Sometimes I really don’t understand why we don’t date him - Midnight howls in my head, I roll my eyes hard as I make my way to the kitchen.

Don’t be silly, he is great but he needs a princess type-girl not a husky warrior - I tell her as I sit in the kitchen remembering easier times before Alpha and warrior status.

Brunch

(Asher)

After I dismiss brandy I can’t help but watch her stalk out the door, it almost makes me chuckle out loud. As I’m deep in thought I quickly get cut off the a buzzing, I look down before answering:

Caller ID: Blue moon (Alpha Shadow)

I answer the phone while instinctively pouring myself a whisky on the rocks.

“Good afternoon Alpha Asher, I hope I am catching you at an ok time.” Alpha Shadow greets on the phone.

“Oh course not Alpha, to what do I owe the pleasure? Is everything ok over at Blue Moon?” I say concerningly as I take another sip of whisky, while sitting down at my desk.

I hear a little chuckle on the other end of the phone before he says, “Alas no nothing of the sorts, didn’t mean to startle you. I just had some rather unique business I would like to talk over with you. If you are free tomorrow I would like to extend my invitation for brunch, my wife Isa and I would much appreciate it.” Confusion is pondering over me, as I try to collect my thoughts so as not to seem rude over the phone.

“That would be marvelous, I do so enjoy your Luna’s cooking, I can arrive tomorrow with my Beta and Gamma around 11 am.” It is very customary for Alphas to not leave the pack grounds without their Beta and Gamma, but really it's just nice company.

“Actually, I was wondering if you might also bring Brandy along? If that is not too much trouble.” I end up agreeing before we both hang up the phone, more curious as to what tomorrow was going to bring.

I woke up around 9’oclock, being able to sleep in a little since I didn’t have to guard today. I was a bit shocked when Asher told me I was invited to this brunch, when it comes to pack business it's usually the Alphas who are convening.

I take a quick shower, while blow-drying my hair. I am trying to make myself more presentable so as to make Asher look good, I throw on a pair of black skinny jeans and a white T-shirt.

Damn we are HOT - Midnight howls circles in my head, as I stare at myself in the mirror.

You always have been our biggest supporter, I say laughing as I look for shoes.

Well I have to be! No men are stepping up - Midnight growls, she seems a little pouty this morning. Every wolf's dream is finding their mate, with me reaching eighteen it makes midnight irritable as most she can feel the time is coming near. However, I am find where I am.

I roll my eyes as I finish getting ready, heading to meet the boys downstairs. I have my own floor on the pack house that I share with some of the Omega warriors, we are all friendly so it makes it a very peaceful living environment.

I reach the bottom of the stair as I see Jake, slicked back hair with a jean Jakeet and some light wash jeans that hug his waist.

“Oye my eyes are up here.” Jake says while giving me a cheesy wink.

“Does that work for you bud? I can only imagine the ladies you pull.” I say as I step to hit his arm, but not before he quickly dodges with a laugh.

“Awe she’s just mad cuz she knows we are way hotter than her, it probably keeps her up at night.” I turn and Luke is yelling as he descends from the staircase.

Alright thats it! - Midnight growls, as I lunge toward him. Before you know it we are all brawling on the floor like a couple of pups fighting over the last KitKat bar.

We are laughing and shouting until we hear a low growl, making us all stop and jump to our feet.

“I can’t leave you animals alone for 10 minutes.” We hear Asher sigh as he strides in the kitchen, “next time I’ll ask my mother to babysit.” We all chuckled as we knew he was kidding but remained with his brow furrowed.

We all have some laughs and head out the door to an SUV parked out front, the cars on the property all belong to the Alpha. However he does allow anyone within the pack to use them with permission.

Blue Moon was a long 2 hour drive, giving us all plenty of time to nap and make meaningless banter.

Pulling up to the gates put a sudden lump in my throat, I just wanted to know why I was here.

You have Asher here, he won’t let anything happen to you -Midnight says as she read my thoughts.

I sure hope so.

Brunch II

(Asher)

Driving up to the gates made me uneasy, which is a feeling I don’t feel a whole lot.

I still don’t know why Alpha Shadow asked for Brandy- my wolf Finn growls, my wolf doesn’t like this situation either. Finn is more possessive than I am, but that is the wolf nature.

For all we know it could just be an innocent introduction of warriors - I say to Finn, but hearing him growling I can tell he has ignored me completely. You're a piece of work sometimes. Finn only responds growling even more. Typical.

I mindlink Jake and Luke, telling them to keep a cautious eye out. I just want all eyes and ears to be alert. They both turn to me in the car and nod at me, signaling they both understand what I'm saying.

We all approached the front door to their packhouse, I didn’t even have time to knock as the door flung open.

“Welcome darling.” Luna Isa says as she wraps me in a hug, “I hope the ride here wasn’t too long.” as she continues to hug everyone else.

I have always liked Isa, she is very warm and friendly. It shows a great representation of being a true luna.

“Shadow is in the dining room, along with the rest.” She motions as I see her put an arm around Brandy as they walk to the dining room together.

“Ahh Alpha Asher, welcome.” Alpha Shadow says as he shakes my hand, “I trust you remember my Beta Brodie and Gamma Taylor.” he finishes as his Beta and Gamma come up and give me a firm handshake while slightly bowing their heads.

Brodie and Taylor are acquainted with Brandy from past parties, I see Brodie pull her in for a side hug. I let out a low growl making Brodie step back and sit down, at the same time I see Brandy shoot daggers at me. Well he shouldn’t be touching her anyways -Finn protests as I can feel him getting angrier. We aren’t here to cause problems, and it looks as if we have already upset Brandy. I let out as I gave a sigh, not realizing how loud it was. I want to give a sheepish look, but I keep my composure and take a seat. This is going to be a long day.

We start eating blueberry pancakes as I hear the boys making small talk, and I can see by Luna Isa, their conversations aren’t interesting to her either. We both give each other a smile as we pass around the mounds of food only a wolf could get down, it feels better knowing I wasn’t feeling so alone.

“Sweetie, would you mind helping me with some pasties in the kitchen, I didn’t have room on the table earlier. Looks as if the boys have all taken care of that.” She gives a look at the boys as she gets up. As they all give her a sheepish smile, that makes both of us start laughing. In return making the boys all start laughing.

I follow her to the kitchen and see some mimosa flutes and pastries, both of which look delicious.

“I wanted to bring the mimosas, but thought the boys should get some of their energy out first.” Isa winks at me as she hands me a mimosa flute and fills it, we both spend a few moments drinking them and making innocent small talk.

We make our way back to the dining room, as I see Asher immediately meet my eye.

C'mon you gotta admit his possession is kinda cute -Midnight purrs, she's such a hopeless romantic. No, it's kind of annoying, especially when I am trying to make a good impression for His Pack nonetheless - I snap at her, I do think Asher is a bit much, considering he treats me so fragile knowing damn well I can handle myself.

“Alpha Asher I would like to discuss why I asked you all here today.” Alpha Shadow interrupts as I see him motioning to Brodie, whom I see stand up with his flute full.

“As you may be aware Alpha, we are expanding our borders in the north, that being said. While we figure out proper expansion plans, the threat of rouges will become an increased risk until we can fully establish new borders.” He takes a break as I see him take a sip of mimosa. “With all that being said, we want to give our pack the most protection, while also ensuring we are not overworking our warriors.” I slowly watch as Brodie’s eyes fall on me, which instinctively makes Midnight purr a little. “We don’t have enough resources to train new recruits and secure our new borders, well not safely. Brandy, we wanted to extend an invitation to ask if you would consider relocating here for a few months to help, your reputation precedes you and Blue moon would truly be grateful.” Brodie does not break eye contact with me, until I hear everyone hears a less low growl from Asher.

F**k! F**k! Did he just GROWL in front of everyone - Midnight asks, just as she does I see Asher stand up, oh brother please no.

“Apologies Alpha, Luna please forgive me. I was just taken aback as I was not expecting that, Brodie I owe you an apology too, no anger directed towards you.” I see as Brodie raises his flute, acknowledging the apology as he smiles and takes a drink. “Again, this is entirely up to Brandy, I would never make a decision like this for her.”

I feel myself glued to my chair, I am having a hard time catching my breath. Girl get it together I try to keep composure as I feel a lot of eyes looking at me.

“Oh Goddess!” Everyone turns and sees Isa put her hands on the table, at this point my own eyes are wide. “This is a big decision and we have sprung this on the poor girl, Shadow dear why don’t you all head to your office and talk more logistics and Brandy and I can clean up in here and chat.” I looked at her with soft eyes, she was simply amazing, and I wished to be just like her one day.

“Yes yes, Alpha why don’t we take this to my office and talk more, I realize I should have roped you in on our current position before springing this on Brandy and you.” Alpha Shadow says while grabbing a bottle of Scotch, and Taylor a tray of glasses. “I feel everyone could use a drink.” He laughs trying to lighten the mood, luckily Jake and Luke partake making everyone calm down.

After helping Luna clean up the dining room we each take a glass of wine and head for a couch, I honestly feel so much better after a few sips on wine. “I don’t want you to think I am trying to be disrespectful with this entire decision.” I blurt out, instant regret catches in my throat. What the hell was that -Midnight scowls, moon goddess why can I not shove my foot in my mouth.

“Oh dear no never, this is a big decision and it is not one to take lightly. I told my husband he should have talked with all of you a bit prior to today, but the goddess knows men don’t listen.” Luna Isa giggles a bit as she finishes off her wine, and I feel Luna getting a little wine drunk as she’s making me laugh something awful.

The boys come to find us, laughing and howling just like us. Seeing everyone happy makes me feel so at ease. look at the way Asher is beaming at you - Midnight starts purring as I look up giggling, his brown eyes look at me with such a soft warmth it kind of makes me melt. That’s right baby look but you can’t touch. Lord she never stops, quiet will you -I give Midnight a growl, to which she ignores and continues her commentary in my head.

“Brandy, are you trying to get my lovely wife drunk?” I can hear the joking tone in Alpha Shadows' voice. To which I can only respond with a laugh, followed by Isa striding over and planting a kiss on her husband.”

After a few more pleasantries, we do say our goodbyes. Before leaving I informed the Alpha and Luna I would have an answer for them within the month, they were both pleased with that answer. Driving off I had a funny feeling in my stomach, I brushed it off as I was a little tipsy and just wanted to get home. Jake and Luke were long passed out in a matter of minutes, which left me and Asher.

“I will support whatever decision you make, I know I’m not losing you.” The way he said it, gave me an instant pang of guilt, and it visibly showed on my face. Seeing the expression on my face, I could see Asher felt bad. “Blue moon has been an incredible ally for decades, and if you choose to help them, It will be a brave choice and one I would be proud to stand behind.” His words brought me great comfort.

We didn’t talk the rest of the car ride, this is going to be a big decision, and one that kind of scares me.
