Part 5:
“Mirha, do you really think I was at fault?”
It was the next day. Roshi was sitting on the couch near her cousin Mirha.
“C’mon! You still don’t get it? Where would you find such decent guys in Karachi? He literally saved your foot. Even though you work in a medical field, with patients and ambulances everywhere, you were unable to stop your bleeding because of the pain. No one helped you but him. And look at the way he folded the cloth—He deserved a good ending.”
“What good ending? He asked for my address! What do you think that was for? All these guys out there are the same. Freaks and Cheapskates. Imagine if I had given him my real address, I’m sure he would've gotten me in trouble somehow.”
“No way! So, you’re saying that you gave him the wrong address?”
“Yeah, why not? I helped him with the money. Now, he should have nothing to do with me. He wouldn’t accept the money without knowing my address, so I gave him a MADE-UP address. Lol! Can you imagine him finding a Bandar Colony that doesn’t exist?”
“Shut up! And stop showing me your ugly teeth. You tricked an innocent man who did nothing but help you get back on your feet, and lost everything because you threw his blazer away. I’m so disappointed in you! Poor Hamza. He wanted your help to get his money and docx back, and you gave him a fake….. Forget it! You have such a cold heart. I wish I could meet him instead.”
“Haha! Why are you getting so annoyed? He’s a stranger we know nothing about. Why are you getting mad at me for him?”
“Don’t talk to me rn. Sit back and ask your heart if you did the right thing?”
Mirha thrust the TV remote back on the couch and left the room.
“Aaahhh! Why is everyone so dramatic? What bad did I even do? Ruined my mood.
But, waittt. What if he actually needed my help to get his stuff back? What if he actually had no one in Karachi to ask for help?
Arghhh! Oh God. I gave him the wrong address. Now, how would I find him? "
“Mirhaaa! Listen, I’ve got a plan for the stranger – To help him out. Listen! Aah this girl! She cares for strangers more than she cares for me.”
Roshi said in a loud voice.
“What?? Did you say something?”
Mirha peeked from the curtain outside the window of the room.
“I was just saying that MAY-BE I should help him out...”
“You SHOULD definitely help him. That’s like a good girl. C’mon, tell me what’s the plan?”
“The plan is Simple. He knows my wrong address, but I know his right one. He told me that he was here to work at “The Mughal Pai" restaurant. It’s hardly 30 minutes from my workplace. I’ll get a short leave tomorrow and then I’ll go see him.”
“Well, that’s great! See him and also get his number this time. To help him in the future. Also, if you don’t wanna help him in the future, get me his number, I’ll help him. I mean, the way you’ve described him, he seems like a pretty handsome guy, don’t he?”
“Shut up! He’s not your type. He’s not like those boys you think.”
“A moment ago, you were like, “ All guys out there are the same. Freaks and Cheapskates,” and look at you now. Are you jealous to give me his number?”
“I don’t know what shit you are talking about. Now, go. Let me watch my favourite series.”
“Okayy! As a matter of fact, isn’t this the series in which a boy named Hamza is the ‘Hero’?”
“Shut up! Get out of here, now.”
“Haha! I can see the SPARK in your eyes, Roshi.”
“Where do you get all these useless thoughts!? I’ll tell Aunt Dia about your shamelessness.”
“Do whatever, ok. Just bring me his number on the way back.”
Mirha kept teasing her for a few minutes, and then she left the room.
“Let me contact the hospital for the short leave now, in case I forget tomorrow. Poor Hamza, I wonder what he’d be doing right now– his ripped shirt, oh god…! I'm totally screwed.
Meanwhile, Hamza, at the moment, got his blazer back after struggling an entire day at the police station with an empty stomach. Thankfully, his money and documents were all kept protected. He took his blazer, thanked the officers, and left the station.
“Aahhh! Let me grab some food. I haven’t eaten in a day. The last time I ate a small serving of bread and soup was with the money Roshi gave me. Ohhh! I still owe her money. The address, where is it?”
Hamza reached his hands into his pockets and found the address.
“Alright. I’ll grab something to eat real quick, and then I’ll immediately return her favour. She makes herself look mean, but inside she’s such a kind and soft person. Who helps a stranger who doesn’t even guarantee payback today? I’m so grateful to her… She helped me, I’ll also grab something nice for her. Maybe flowers? Noo! She’ll again think I’m THAT kind of guy. Chocolate would do? Yeah, that’s right.”
Both lied to each other and had no idea that they might not find each other again. Hamza told him about the wrong restaurant, when actually he was here for an ambulance service at a hospital. Roshi gave him the address of a colony that doesn’t even exist... But, maybe LIFE has other plans for them....
