He's the Wordle wizard

Cracks it every time

By Raymond G. TaylorPublished about a year ago Updated 28 days ago 1 min read

"Have you done it already?"

"Sure, babe. Always."

"How come you are so quick."

"I'm the Wordle Wizard, of course."

"Cheater, more like."

"No need."

Wordle is a word game developed by Josh Wardle and published by the New York Times since 2022: Wordle

"What's your secret then?"

"I don't guess, I solve."

"What do mean, you don't guess? It's a word guessing game."

"Not when I do it."

"How can you do it without guessing?"

"I start with the same two words every day, then solve the puzzle from there."

"Two words?"

"Yes, two words: SHIRE and TONAL, but you can choose any two words you like. Best to choose words that cover all or most of the vowels as well as frequently found consonants."

"How does that work?"

"Well, take a look at today's Wordle.... Here.

"Okay, I can see you used SHIRE and TONAL and then guessed... wrongly: CRONY."

"I tried CRONY after rearranging R, O and N. This put R and O in the correct positions. I then moved the N and added the F and W to make FROWN."

"Then why BADGE for your next try?"

"I only had two tries left but could see that there were at least three possible solutions. Had I guessed wrongly twice, I would have lost the game.

"I can't see any another solutions. What were they?"

"DROWN and GROWN... obviously."

"Oh, I see. You chose BADGE because it has a B, D, and a G."

"That's right. Whichever letter turned out to be correct, I knew that BADGE would indicate which initial letter to use. If it turned out that there was another possible solution I had not thought of, BADGE would have drawn a blank and I could think again. See?"

"All I can see is that you are a right, bloody smartarse."

"Ha ha, you know that, babe."

Sooooo funny! I used to play Words with Friends. (Like on-line Scrabble)

  • Hahahaha I always start with ADIEU because it has 4 out of the 5 vowels. Then my second guess would be a word that has an O in it. And then I go from there

What a great story. I play one word game called Word Blitz that is a timed game on facebook.com. I do pretty good if I say so myself.

Lol, I’ve heard of wordle but have never played it. I do play Words with Friends everyday. Feels like I would have plenty of practice to give Wordle a shot, as they have a similar side game. Fun story, Ray!
