Happy Stones Tower

Finding Joy in Balance and Simplicity

By SibghaPublished about a year ago 3 min read

There was serenity at the bus stop on that evening. The rays of light penetrated the treetops, providing an orange, glowing effect on the environment. The leaves swayed gently in the air, creating a pleasant harmony of sounds from nature.

As I strolled along the meandering path, my attention was riveted by something. Perched on a flat, worn rock was a funny sight—a pile of stones each adorned with a simple yet interesting smile. I had to admit to myself, and quite clearly, that I readily appreciated such a strange display.

Intrigued, I moved in for a closer glance at the strange arrangement. The rocks were of different sizes, shapes, and colors but stacked so perfectly balanced that it was as if they were defying gravity. The top-most stone, a gleaming white rock, seemed to be the crowning masterpiece, its impressive smile beaming with infectious zeal.

My mind was focusing on the structure when I found myself incapable of assisting but rather in a state of deep thought and child-fancy. Who created that lovely arrangement? Was it the impermanent handiwork of an idle artist, an imaginative kid, or maybe a considerate passerby? The conundrum, as it were, was the enhancement of the scenery offered.

Fueled by the uncomplicated yet effective emotion that the stones inspired, I simply grinned back. It was as if the interlocked smiles were radiating some good energy that was somehow nostalgic and managed to make me feel cheerful and happy without a care in the world.

I walked around the arrangement, studying all the angles and the particulars. The stones were not stacked casually; they were more like positioned to fit each other such that the whole structure seemed to be in perfect harmony. It was a testament to the concept of synergy, that is, how separate entities could join together to create something more than its individual parts.

Continuing my research, I paid attention to the subtle differences that existed among the drawn faces. Some were broad-grin smiles, while others were quieter, softer smiles. Each one expressed a different emotion, a distinct character, which added to the beauty of the performance.

All of a sudden, a motion attracted my attention. A vigorous wind swept the park, gently disturbing the leaves and making the pile sway a little. I held my breath as I was astonished that such delicate equilibrium would be broken. But to my charm, the stones remained steadfast, their smiles unyielding in the face of the gentle disturbance.

It was as if the pile itself had some sort of resonant spirit, a desire to keep its cheerful self-portrait within the encroaching forces of nature. This I found easy to do, and I drew a simple realization from this: that even in the presence of adversity, we will still choose to maintain an optimistic outlook and extract joy from the simple things in life.

Somehow, while doing all that I could to make myself leave what was for me a fairy-tale picture, I did manage, however, to reflect, as one does tend to, upon the kindly unexpected turn of events that had come to pass. The sculptures of playful stacked stones had not only given me a minute of simple joy but also reminded me of the importance of being happy over the tiniest details, the beauty and wonder that is all around us, even in the most ordinary of locations.

Fueled with a heart full of a renewed sense of optimism and positivity, I continued with my journey, fully aware that the memory of the Stacked Stones of Grins would for ages be there, a gentle reminder of the need to always seek those moments that uplift and provide a warm and energizing wonderful inner joy.

Happiness is something that can often be found in even the simplest moments of the day. It is a change in perspective that allows one to appreciate the work done in the beauty created. It is possible, however, to be ready and even optimistic, quite sorry to some certain extent, standing at the very facade of success. Engaging in small, deliberate acts can also result in greater joy and satisfaction.
