🌱 Greengal: The Girl Who Refused to Give Up
A survival story of courage, resilience, and hope in the face of darkness.

When tragedy took her mother, Greengal’s life spiraled into hardship and cruelty. Trapped, beaten down, and even kidnapped by someone she thought she could trust, she found herself chained in the darkest of places. But through it all, she held onto one truth: “I am strong. I will survive.” This is the story of a young girl’s fight for freedom—and how her survival became a beacon of hope for others.
Greengal: A Story of Survival and Strength
There was once a girl called Greengal. She was a happy child, full of laughter, with many friends at school. Life seemed bright—until tragedy struck. One day, she lost her mother in a sudden accident, and her world was never the same.
Afterward, she went to live with her adopted mother, Olive Dasa. But instead of kindness, Dasa showed her only cruelty.
“Wash the dishes, Greengal. Sweep the yard. Feed the pig. Go to the shop.”
Every day was endless work. She had to walk a mile to fetch water with no shoes on her feet. Her clothes were ragged, lice crawled in her hair, and blisters covered her soles. Poor Greengal whispered to herself, “I have to get out of this. I must escape.”
One night, with a scandal bag packed with bread and cheese stolen from the cupboard, she made her move. A kind gardener offered her food and water, but little did she know—he was not kind at all. He dragged her away and locked her in a cabin deep in the woods.
When she awoke, she was chained to a bed. Tears came, but then she stopped herself.
“I have to be strong. I will survive. No one is coming to save me—I must save myself.”
Greengal began to reason with the gardener, known as Butman. She pretended to be his friend, slowly gaining his trust. Day after day, she watched him closely—how he kept the keys, when he fell asleep, and when his guard was down.
One night, she whispered the words that had become her shield:
“I am strong. I will survive.”
With trembling hands, she slipped the key from his pocket, unlocked her chains, and pushed open the door. The night was dark and the forest thick, but Greengal ran. Barefoot, bleeding, and afraid, she did not stop until the first light of dawn.
At the edge of the village, she collapsed. A farmer found her and carried her to safety. Authorities soon captured Butman, and Greengal was finally free.
Life afterward was not easy. But Greengal refused to give up. She returned to school, worked hard, and built a new life filled with kindness, love, and hope. She carried her scars, but also her strength.
Years later, she shared her story with others—especially children who felt hopeless and forgotten. Standing tall, she would smile and say:
“No matter how dark the night, the morning will come. I survived—and so can you.”
Greengal’s story is more than survival—it is proof that courage, even in the smallest voice, can defeat the darkest of nights.
