Gideon's Gamble

Gideon stares into shadows of nothingness. To say he was lost would be an understatement, with no idea how he got here. The last things he remembers is the smell of burning rubber, numbness throughout his body, flying in the dark, searing pain, bright lights, and strange chaotic voices.

One word...CLEAR… then all went dark.

After, his mind wandered, trapped in many endless nightmares, blurring together like dimensional time jumps. Lost.

A voice breaks the silence, an ethereal figure, shrouded in a cloak stands alone. “Welcome Gideon.”

His own voice sounds surreal. “Where am I, why the hell am I naked and covered in scars, and how do you know my name?”

“Interesting.”

Standing straight Gideon asks. “What’s interesting?”

“How calm you are.”

“We’ll see for how long if you don’t start answering.”

“Fair enough. Gideon, your subconscious is here in the Dream Void.”

“My subconscious?”

“Yes, a manifestation of sorts. Please listen while I explain. Your mind is here but your body lays in a coma. You’ve been chosen, as Guardian, to defend those in the sleep world. You must save those souls from their horrors, become their Saviour, their Hero if you will. Each scar represents a demon you must defeat. Demons who torment their hosts, causing harmful repercussions, like drug addiction, crime, or suicide, among others. Once all your scars are cleared you may return.”

“Demons?”

“People like yourself, fighting for their freedom out of the Void, the Yin to your Yang. However, should you fail, a new scar will be added.”

“I’m supposed to fight demons naked, without powers?”

With a chuckle. “It’s the dream world Gideon. Wear and do whatever you want, put on a cape if you wish. Imagination is your superpower, use it to survive.”

“Survive?”
