“To hell with that I’m not going through that!” Seaford Halley screeched.

“Sir, we may have to subdue you if you continue to be belig—” the medical staff said.

“Goddamn you! Goddamn all of you!” Halley cursed. “You all…can…go….”

He fell under the spell of the sedative. He dreamed. He considered color and shape for six weeks in an induced coma. Then he woke up. He looked up and saw the lights around him. The room seemed brighter and a sense of sterility pervaded the space. Like a mixture of disinfectants and the light scent of lemon surrounded him and pricked up his nose. He was slow to rise but he noticed he was in a bed and that the volume of the television was low. Pain shot from his groin and he groaned.

He slowly lifted his bedsheet. His eyes turned to his lower extremities. He shrieked! It was like a chainsaw had split his consciousness in two.

He was still fighting the spell of the drugs. “You…bastards….” He wept.

The doctors entered the room and stood around Halley. They folded their arms and whispered. They were like pigeons cooing. Still groggy, Halley closed his eyes as he became even more aware of what forced procedure had taken place against him.

“Patient Halley? Patient Halley?”

Halley remained quiet but he was cognizant. He looked around him. The faces were all blocked by masks and glasses. Their arms remained folded.

“The procedure went just as well as anything. You will be able to be a productive member of society in a whole new way. We have used technology to make you complete. Make you whole. You will live a full life now as an adult who will enjoy the benefits of knowing that you will be adding to the population of the human race in a radically different way than you would have expected before now,” Dr. Stingly addressed.

He looked at the faces once more. The drugs caused a blur in his mind. It was like a smeared windshield. He brought in the first deep breath in a long while. The smell entered into his nostrils and singed his nose hairs. Now he was fully awake. He lunged at Dr. Stingly. The other doctors restrained him.

“If you don’t want to be under general anesthesia you’re going to have to cooperate,” Dr. Shirley Sade said. “We can explain to you the necessity of this treatment and your new life.”

“You will be happy in your new way of living. We have complete ways of ensuring that you will enjoy this transformation,” Dr. Rother explained.

Halley wiped his eyes and began to focus. His body ached as if he were recovering from a car wreck. Then the twinge came. He had a sudden sensation of vomiting. The nurses ran to get bedpan. He expelled the contents of his stomach.

“That’s just morning sickness. You’re going to be mather. Or fother if you’d like.”

“No, no!”

He ripped the tubes and IV from his face and body, respectively. He broke from the hold of the doctors and nurses.

A news reporter announced it on the television from an Internet channel.

“Men from 18-50 are being found to be put under the knife to have a womb for the good of democracy. Women also will be transformed into men with male equipment. Again, this is all to preserve democracy. There will be no more abortions as men will be unable to use their minds to choose. It’s not about the life of the individual but the group.”

Halley then found a hanger and mangled himself. The blood dripped from him.
