Wang Hu of Yidu has been selling vegetables since he was a child. Every morning at dawn, he would leave his stretcher at the Xiao Temple and then run home quickly before going to the market to sell vegetables. The monk at the temple asked him, "Why do you go to sell vegetables early in the morning every day!'' He replied, "To buy cakes and biscuits for my mother to eat." The monk said, "What a filial son, a child can be taught." So, he taught him the secret arts of technical combat, Dingjia, and Nontranslation. Soon Wang Hu learned martial arts. One day after he finished learning martial arts, Wang Hu took a boat to cross the river, and his hat was blown into the water by the wind, so he stepped on the water and went to get his hat back, but his clothes didn't have any water.
Wang Hu had an uncle who was a government official and returned to his hometown after his term was over. One day, Wang Hu went to visit him. In front of the uncle's house, Wang Hu saw a pedestrian in short clothes wandering there. Wang Hu said to his uncle, "This is not a big road, why is he wandering around here? His uncle was scared and asked him what he could do. Wang Hu looked very difficult. His uncle said to him, "If you can recognize your guests, you can manage them, so don't resist." Wang Hu had no choice but to agree to his uncle's request. He said to him, "This man just came to spy first, and a large group of people is still behind. You can prepare a thousand taels of silver and two tables for the feast, and make good tea to wait for their arrival. At the third hour, the servants and others will be locked up in the house, so don't let them out." The uncle followed Wang Hu's instructions and arranged everything.
The uncle did not know what kind of magic Wang Hu used, so he watched Wang Hu secretly through the door. Towards midnight, Wang Hu was left alone in the courtyard, when suddenly a man came down from the air.
Wang Hu shouted tea, and tea came flying through the window. Then, more than ten people descended from the air, Wang Hu repeatedly called tea but also held up a fan towards the window, tea bowls were placed one by one on the fan, stacked with more than ten bowls, and not a bowl fell. Wang Hu gave the tea to all the people who fell from the sky and said to them, "I have known for a long time that you have come here.
The master here is no one else, he is my uncle, and I am no one else, I am the disciple of a certain master. Even so, the master has prepared a banquet to entertain his guests, and has offered a thousand taels of silver to celebrate everyone's birthday." When the people heard this, they obeyed, so after they had enough wine and food, they collected the silver and left. These people were probably very afraid of the monks of that temple, and also heard about Wang Hu's martial arts, so they slipped away.
Since then, my uncle thought highly of Wang Hu and bought him a magistrate's position. A few years later, Wang Hu resigned from his official position to return home and closed the door to thank the guests.
In the early years of the Qianlong period, Wang Hu has been more than 60 years old. At this time, the family of a governor of Sichuan passing through Yidu was robbed by robbers' guns, not only was a lot of property lost, but the women also let the robbers rape. The governor heard the news, greatly annoyed, issued a diatribe, ordered the county magistrate deadline to capture the bandits, otherwise, on the crime. When the magistrate received the diatribe, he was afraid and did not know what to do. Someone gave him an idea: "Wang Hu can subdue the bandits." The magistrate hurriedly prepared a sedan chair and went to Wang's house to ask for Wang's help. At first, Wang Hu refused, but when he realized that the magistrate was a clean official, he agreed to his request. Wang Hu said to the magistrate, "This is the place where you must go to get to Shu, and the main troublemakers here are the bandits from Wushan. You should prepare a big boat and wait for me there." Then, Wang Hu took a small boat and traveled day and night to Wushan Mountain. In the mountainous area, the bandits formed a fortress to defend themselves. Halfway up the mountain, Wang Hu met a man who was patrolling the fortress and shouted to him, "Go and tell your leader that Wang Hu is here. When the leader of the bandits heard that Wang Hu had come, he greeted him on his knees at the entrance of the fortress and asked for forgiveness, "This is a very important matter, I hope you can forgive the thirty or so of us." Wang Hu said, "You should not say such things when you plunder unjust money. There is no forgiveness for those who lust for evil." The bandits thought that Wang Hu was alone and could be killed in a group, but as soon as they thought that, their hands and feet seemed to be tied and they could not move.
The bandits were terrified, and the leader of the bandits said, "Forget it! We can only give up our hands and be captured." Wang Hu slowly took out the ropes from his sleeves, tied them up one by one, and escorted them to the water's edge. Wang Hu first boarded a small boat, tied the thirty or so to the stern, and dragged them through the water. When they got to the big boat, they were put in shackles and punished according to the law of torture.
