The Condemned Letter

Dear Administrator of Hell,

You are the one I would have preferred to murder, but your daughter worked in a pinch.

I don't know if I should have brought Audra into this tragedy or not. I admit that. But she had your DNA, so she couldn't have been totally innocent.

Everyone seems to think I'm evil.

Maybe.

Probably.

But it's because of you that I became committed!

So your daughter didn't deserve my knives.

So what?

By your own standards, I shouldn't deserve the electric chair!

Didn't you say, "All life is sacred"?

Yes, you most certainly did say that repeatedly during your campaign!

That's easy to say when someone on your side of the spectrum is slain!

Oh, that I could have skinned you alive!

But security around you was too tight.

I thought about killing Jesse. I know you love him. But watching your interviews, it became clear to me that you have a special relationship with Audra.

And targeting her was easy.

She was always sneaking out to be with her friends when you and Jesse were gone.

I figured out what she was up to!

Why couldn't you???

Don't you know how dangerous this world can be?

Some parent you are.

It says a lot about you— the way you display your hypocrisy when tragedy hits close to home.

Aren't you religious snobs supposed to forgive others?

You certainly didn't sound very forgiving to me in that interview you did right after my sentencing!

In fact, you sounded downright hateful!

As I was carving Audra up, I told her that I was stabbing her to stab at you.

Your daughter's final words were, "I knew it."

What exactly, Senator, do you think she knew?

What did you do to her?

Where were you when she needed you?

Working?

You belong in Hell. That's where devils far less wicked than you are employed.

You think I'm a monster?

Well, it takes a monster to recognize a monster.

I'll scout out Hell for us.

I'll be waiting for you when you get there.

Audra wouldn't be dead if you'd chose another profession!

Remember that.

As for me,

I Am Content.

The Martyr

_____________

He fried fifteen years ago.

Every Anniversary on the night before the cutthroat's death, his malicious ghost sat unseen in the prison cell.

He wrote the same letter over and over and over, using impotence as his quill and spite as his ink.

If someone had the misfortune to be incarcerated with the angry specter on that particular summer 13th, they would wake up at dawn in a cold sweat, their hair standing up as if charged with static electricity.

The letter written in 2010 was never sent.

All the ghost knew in his trapped afterlife was that his final words were never read.

Love what you did there with the sort of... Greeting you started with. It ended up sounding deliciously rude and forward. 'It's because of you I became committed' I think the bite went deep in this line. Oh my gosh this is so frightening. Someone who is sneaking out. The thought of them not being sa- Never coming ba- Religious snobs are terrible people. Telling others to forgive when they won't. As I was carving 😳 it was written so nonchalantly. To say I am stunned is an understatement. The high quality in your writing always stays the same. In this one I am also speechless. Especially when it was signed Martyr. His final words were never read. 😲 Once again. I don't know what to do with myself. Even when I haven't seen it all, I feel like I have seen all the awful stuff after reading this. Another happy traumatized reader at your will. Best of luck in the challenge 🤗❤️

A brave and uncomfortable portrait of rage and moral contradiction, it forces readers to confront how hypocrisy and loss can warp the human soul. The ending, unsent and unresolved, lingers in the mind long after reading.

Whoa. This gave me chills. It’s so raw and unsettling. The voice feels so real, and unhinged. It’s one of those pieces that makes you stop and wonder about the darkness people carry and how it twists.
