Dreamland part seven
Kedamono’s reticence
Kedamono woke up and realized that Kedamono Junior was still asleep. Popee was also asleep next to him.
It had been a week since he had his first and only son come into his life, and he saw just how devoted and loyal Popee was after all, by sticking by him and starting this family up with grit and determination and love.
He knew that Popee was putting up huge signs ever since their six month anniversary that he wanted to get more intimate with him, but they just couldn’t find the time.
If they weren’t running errands, doing laundry, cleaning up, playing with and feeding and changing their son, Popee was studying and Kedamono was looking for a new job in the city, going to interviews and applying for work.
In between all of that, they tried to rest.
They were planning to move within the next two weeks, to their first house in the city, and Kedamono was trying very hard to find a decent job to support their family.
Popee showed him and their son his unveiled robot that seemed to be working under some sort of nuclear synthesized energy—-but Kedamono realized that the explanation of how the robot’s inner workings were created and produced, were out of his depth, entirely. There was something like a burning flame radiating near the front of its head, and overall, it seemed to assist Popee in menial tasks like picking up Kedamono Junior’s toys and their stuff, and even sweeping.
The whole debacle with Shawna left Kedamono feeling unnerved and what’s worse, made him worried that Marifa or even Popee’s father might try and find them.
It didn’t help that he and Popee did not see eye to eye on Marifa.
Marifa was about four years younger than Popee, but seemed to have more manipulative tactics to get her way and was also a bit cruel.
Of course, Popee was blind to this, even after Marifa had tried to use him as target practice for the cannon ball launching stunt, practically making Kedamono bleed internally from how badly the whole thing went. It was a good thing Popee and Papi realized this, and got him medical help. Marifa, in general, seemed to despise Kedamono and always pranked him and taunted him.
At one point, even saying she’d expose him for who he truly was—-the son of the White Wolf woman, the one who wreaked havoc on many villages and towns.
It was a defense of Popee’s own trusting nature with his younger sister that whenever anyone mentioned what she used to do as a negative, he’d immediately deny it, and Kedamono was tired of arguing.
He didn’t want Popee to not have a relationship with her, but he was also worried about her getting too directly involved with Popee and their family. She seemed to have a huge effect on him.
He started breakfast as his son and boyfriend slept in, and made coffee.
In a very strong sense, he knew that he needed more intimacy with Popee. But, he suffered from a blocker of reticence and shyness, a condition that stemmed even back to Shawna, his first lover and now scorned ex.
Shawna was the one who initiated contact and Kedamono was the one being dominated in that short tryst of an affair.
He wanted to explain to Popee that he was still achingly shy, but so badly wanted to consummate their relationship.
So, he decided that he’d get a babysitter so that could have one night of openness.
He felt that he could provide Popee with what he desired—-but still, he felt nervous.
So he called up Nina, their sweet and wise landlord and new Aunt for Kedamono to watch him that Friday evening.
“Oh, a date night for you two? That’ll be good, yes?” She said with a kind tone.
“Yeah. Popee needs a break. I’ll pay you, Nina.”
“No, no. No charge. It’ll be my pleasure.”
“That’s so sweet, thank you! But I must give you something.”
“You already did! You gave me someone to adore and love like a new nephew. He’s so sweet.”
“I appreciate that. Nina, we couldn’t be more grateful that we have you.”
“Same here, you are all a very beautiful family.”
“With you in it, Nina, it makes it even better.”
She blushed. “Aww, no need to say that. But, thank you.”
They said goodbye and he saw that Popee was finally waking up.
“Hmm, good morning, my darling,” Kedamono said, going over to hug him. Popee grinned, kissing him softly.
“Mornin’ dear.”
“Coffee?”
Popee nodded. “Please.”
“I gotta surprise for you, baby,” Kedamono said with a sly tone as he made Popee a cup of coffee.
“Breakfast? It smells good in here.”
Kedamono laughed, handing Popee the coffee. “I made eggs and bacon. Want some?”
“Scrambled?” Popee asked as he sipped his coffee. “Thank you for the coffee. It’s good.”
“You’re welcome,” Kedamono said, sitting down next to him on the couch. Popee put down the coffee mug on the table. “Yes, I made yours scrambled. And mine, overeasy.”
“Aww, you’re sweet.” Popee looked at him with an expectant glance, “so, what’s the real surprise?”
Kedamono got Popee’s plate ready. “Well… I called up Nina,” he brought over a plate of scrambled eggs, bacon and some warm biscuits with raspberry jam.
“Really? Why?” He took the plate, “Thanks, honey.”
“Welcome, um… I made a date for us. She said she’d watch Kedamono Junior for us.”
“When?” Popee grinned.
“This Friday.”
“Oh, that sounds exactly like what we needed.”
“Exactly,” Kedamono repeated, sitting down to finish his own plate of food.
Popee stopped eating and stood up, placing his palms out and arms in the air.
“Wh—what are you doing?” Kedamono asked, his face flushed as he watched Popee spread his legs into a lunge position, and suddenly, he took in a sharp breath to dip forward into a perfect handstand. He spread his legs and twisted them, making a motion as though he was riding a bike backwards.
Kedamono covered his mouth, his whole body feeling hot.
“Oh, dear, Popee? What’s going on?”
“Ah, Keda, hearing about our date this Friday made me feel so happy! Sorry, I like to do handstands when I’m excited!!”
Kedamono looked as Popee was expertly balancing himself and he laughed affectionately.
“Don’t be shy! Keda, do one too!!”
Kedamono nodded, starting to mimic the same actions as Popee.
Just then, they heard Kedamono Junior wake up, making Kedamono lose balance and fall on top of Popee.
“You clumsy wolf!” Popee said in a burst of hysterics. “Making your move on me a bit early, eh?”
Kedamono laughed too, but stopped as soon as Popee leaned in to sneak a kiss.
