Dragons in the Valley
Chapter 1 - Saving the Eggs

There weren't always dragons in the Valley. The elves had to make a drastic decision to save them before they were all hunted down. Outside the Valley, the dragons had been ruling the skies for 1000s of years. The dragons were beautiful and majestic as they flew over the lands. They had a variety of colors, shapes, and wingspans. Most were a golden brown or burnt yellow. Occasionally, you would see a red or even a blue dragon but the rarest of them all was the black dragon. Dragons weren't massive creatures either. They averaged about 25 feet in length, including tail, with a wingspan of 50 feet. Though they are playful and harmless, they are not to be trifled with when you mess with someone they love.
A few hundred years ago, the humans were starting to expand their settlements closer to the lands of the dragons. The humans were stupid and only saw them with fear and hatred. Like most unknown things human see, they attack it and ask questions later. It didn't take them long to start getting the courage and weapons built to try and destroy them. They created hunting parties and launching weapons to attack what they didn't understand.
The dragons never hurt a single person. Whether is was elves, dwarves, or even trolls. They might of snacked on an occasional orc once in a while but they were of no significance. The dragons mostly kept to themselves and ate on wild animals, bathed and drank in lakes and rivers, and were actually friendly with other humanoid races.
The elves were their favorite, by far. A small few elves had them as pets. It was elves that first discovered them so many centuries ago. Throughout history, the two races were inseparable. They had a mutual benefit and mental bond that could never be broken. The elves that helped hatch a dragon egg, imprinted on the dragon and built a mental connection that went deeper than anything else in the world.
When they found out that humans started hunting down the dragons in the wild, they knew they had to step in. Not only did they distance themselves from the troglodytes, they actively avoided them at all costs. The elves had massive hidden cities that humans would never be able to find.
These cities were massive and beautiful. Flowing rivers and waterfalls, lush green trees with blooming flowers, and dwellings of granite, hardwoods, and marble. These cities were behind in valleys that could only be accessed through hidden passages under the mountains. Going over the mountain would be committing suicide for a human.
Ever since the humans first encountered a curious young dragon they instantly feared them. As in typical fashion, a young dragon flew over a farm on the outskirts of a town. He noticed a heard of sheep and a young boy playing his dog near them. He swooped down at a distance and crawled up slowly. He didn't want to scare the boy but wanted to meet him.
About 100 feet out, the dog stopped playing and started growling. The boy was startled but could only freeze. The dragon sniffed as he got closer. The dog started to ease up and started sniffing back. The boy started to relax and walked slowly towards the dragon. The dragon walked up to the boy and nudged him in the chest with his nose. The boy laughed and started to play around with both dog and dragon.
The boy's dad came out of the house to check on his son and only yelled. "Charlie! What are you doing?! Get away from that monster!
"He's not a monster, daddy. He's nice."
He grabbed a pitchfork and ran towards the dragon. His fear filled actions scared off the dragon for now. He came back at night and found the boys room window. He woke up Charlie to play but Charlie couldn't leave the house. They would play together in the woods or at the window at night. A few days went by and Charlie gave him the name Alex.
Alex and Charlie played every day that they could. Charlie's dad followed him one day and figured out they were doing this on a regular basis. One night, when Alex came by, Charlie's dad was waiting. Him and some buddies set up a trap and threw a net over Alex and he couldn't do anything. "This is for hurting my son."
Charlie's dad stabbed Alex in the chest several times in different spots to make sure he was dead. This was only the beginning of the slaughter that was to come. Over the next hundred years, the humans did everything they could to extinguish the existence of dragons. Charlie's descendants were the only ones trying to help save the dragons. They could only do so much but ultimately nearly failed.
Charlie's great grandson, Franklin, had just turned 21 and found a cave while on a hike in the woods. The cave was well hidden and Franklin was a very curious boy. He walked into the pitch black cave and while his eyes adjusted, he heard rustling in the back of the cave. "Hello?"
There was only silence. He checked again, "Hello?"
He went a little deeper and still barely being able to see, he was able to make out the shape of a dragon. She was a dark blue dragon and scared for he life and her brand new eggs. The 5 eggs needed to be protected but she had no where to run to. Franklin said in a soft voice, "It's okay. I wont hurt you. Come on."
He put his hand out and she ever so cautiously took a few sniffs. All the dragons knew of Charlies smell and she new Franklin was a friend. "Are these your babies?"
She nodded sheepishly and walked around the eggs with pride. Then from the shadows, a mysterious figure appeared. He lit a crystal and with a sexy, deep voice said, "What are you doing here?"
It startled Franklin to the ground. "Wha... where did yo... who are you?"
"Answer me before I destroy you, human."
"Okay, okay... I'm Franklin. I stubbled into this cave and found these dragons eggs. Please don't hurt them. They're precious."
"I know. I'm here to save them."
Squinting to see him better, "Who are you?"
"My name is Alinar. Leave this cave at once and I will spare you."
"Please, sir, I beg of you. Let me help save the eggs. My family has been trying to help for 100 years."
The elf knew it was Charlie's descendant but needed to maintain his stance. He grabbed Franklin by the collar and dragged him out of the cave. He tossed him out with force and by the time Franklin turned back, the cave was gone. "No! Please let me help! I know I can do so much more for you."
The elf ignored him and picked up the five eggs and walked deeper into the cave. Alinar walked out of an opening into the Elvin city of Lillerian. He turned his head as if thinking he should let the human help. Stood there for a few seconds and shook it off. He walked over to the nest where the 13 other eggs that were saved and place these five with them.
Alinar lifted the guise on the cave so the dragon could leave and Franklin would be left in a world of wonder. Meanwhile, the eggs were safe and able to hatch without human intervention. As Alinar walked away, one of the eggs started to shake and crack. What color with this dragon be when it pops out into a whole new world in the Valley?
