Derallenged

The Prompt

Invent a word, then write a microfiction story that encapsulates its meaning.

Derallenged:participle: The state of being disturbed by constant challenges that force you off your path. This can be any challenge by anything.

Micromanaged

He could do the job, he was good at it.

His manager always had to find fault with his work.

Pick at it.

"Why are you doing it that way?"

You used the wrong font"

"You should not be contacting them, they are above your pay grade"

He couldn't explain anything because the manager would never listen, and what the manager heard he never understood but could not be seen to be ignorant.

This was driving him off the rails, it was affecting his home life because he knew what was going to happen the next day. He didn't know what he was feeling, but he was derallenged, though he had never heard the term.

Each day was getting worse and he had to put a stop to it, and there was only one solution, the removal of the manager. The manager was a favourite of the upper echelons of the company, they saw him as a strong man when in reality he was an ignorant, spiteful bully.

He had a knife block of very sharp kitchen knives....

.... he could do some damage with those.

It was the only way he could see to free himself from the bully.

There would be consequences, but it would be worth it.

He wrapped the largest knives, in a cloth and put them in his manbag.

He knew when he left work he would probably be on the news and in cuffs.

But he would no longer be derallenged but he would not know that because the word did not exist.........yet.
