Dark Storm

He never smiles.

By Novel AllenPublished about a year ago 1 min read

Blaak's parents had died in the raid of 2147, leaving him orphaned and cowering in the rubble, foraging for food and water. For a short time, he had been a happy child, that life now a dream as he fought to survive. Converting one of the half- destroyed rooms in his old home into a quasi-livable shelter, he fought to protect it from scavengers.

More than anything, he wanted to join the Elite Protection Force, the feared government patrollers of cities everywhere. As he grew, he trained long and hard, pushing his body beyond limits and endurance.

At 16 he applied to the academy, but was refused, he was not of elite stock, they told him. He was not good enough.

Blaak seethed with anger. He would show them.

He kept applying and was rejected. During this time, he learned everything that he could about them. By 18, he knew everything. He could fight better, was smarter, and had the street smarts to back him up.

They came for him, after the last rejection. They had decided to accept him into the force after all. Blaak was skeptical, but he had nowhere else to go.

The blaggards, the scoundrels. They used him as an experiment, injecting him with a trial serum for enhancement of the protectors. Many trials had failed, people had died.

In great anguish and pain, he passed out, his heart stopped. They threw him away for dead. But he woke up among the other dead bodies.

He stumbled, disgusted, but as his hand touched the bodies, he took on the shape of the one he touched, altering his entire body.

Blaak infiltrated their ranks, forged papers and rose to be commander of the patrollers, changing them from within, as villain and a hero for the underserved.
