Cat Nights Are Coming
For My Forthcoming August Challenge

Introduction
Cat Nights begin on August 17. This term harks back to the days when people believed in witches.
A rather obscure old Irish legend said that a witch could turn herself into a cat eight times, but on the ninth time (August 17), she couldn’t regain her human form. This bit of folklore also gives us the saying, “A cat has nine lives.” Because August is a yowly time for cats, this may have prompted the speculation about witches on the prowl in the first place. Also, nights continue to get longer.
Cats, crepuscular creatures, are nocturnal hunters. Their superior night vision means that the nights belong to them.
Cat Nights Are Coming
She found life easier as a cat, though she could travel faster on her broom in her witch form.
The first time she took the form of a cat, she was exhilarated and found that people were much more engaging with her. They petted her, treated her, and some let her into their houses, thinking that they had found a cat, rather than the reality that the cat had found them.
She could sleep all day and then wake up whoever's household she was in at two or three in the morning, go outside, and then yowl to be let back in.
She loved Cat Nights.
But she had to revert back to being a witch, and people were suspicious of her, although they always came to her for help and remedies for ills. She also loved riding her broom through the night, and as a witch or a cat, she loved being out in the middle of the night.
She also loved being a cat, and changed back often, but she had never read the tome on witches transforming into cats, and when, as a cat, on August seventeenth, she could not change back to being a witch.
At first, she was upset, but slowly realised that life as a cat could be very, very good.
Everyone seemed to love her, she had absolutely no responsibilities, and she could do what she wanted.
Her life was perfect, and Cat Nights were coming.

I love this cat-tastic story!
I never knew the origin of the nine lives thing. Interesting.
I had never heard that about the 17th. Cats are fabulous. Have you seen Bell, Book and Candle??
Only if I could change back, i def would keep count. Looking forward cause i love cats.
There is something about a cat for at times they are a soothing type of pet, and I could see why one would want to be one, but not me. Good job.
If I could turn into a cat, I would never turn back into a human. Loved your story!
