Paul walked into the casino and he knew he shouldn't have, not now, not in this time of his life. It would be bad news for him and his relatives. And they would have something to say about it. Rest his soul. It gave him a headache just thinking about what would spew out of their mouths. He didn't know if it would be good or bad. With his family it would probably be bad. They always had something nice to say. Especially behind his back. Which wasn't very nice.
Everything was hunky-dory in his mind. Following the problems within his life. The machines were his enemy, gambling the problem of his life. The whisky shots helped a little bit in the profound way they always did. But Paul wasn't aware of it when they did. He just sank back and enjoyed what he could. While he could. Otherwise he would have to sink back into submission. Submission that he could not control. Or otherwise stimulate. At least in his mind.
The bells and whistles of the casino machines were ringing out to his psyche. But should he follow the call or deny it fervently? The only answer he found was not his own. They were someone elses'. To follow them would be folly. Although maybe it would give him a second chance to save his alibi. Or it might not, he'd have to wait and see. Hopefully it would not take forever to decide. They were calling out to him and trying to remove his boundaries.
Sarah, his companion knew of his transgressions and how hard he worked to stay away from them. At the moment she was trying to shield him from them. But she could not do it by herself. Even her family told him she should stay away from him. She chose to ignore them. She was in his life for a reason. And it wasn't for shame. It was for the beauty of the relationship. Other things as well. Sarah did not want to get into it now.
Paul and Sarah together could erase his demons. If that was what they wanted at the time to do. Or they could as simply ignore them. The choice was theirs to make in this world. Whichever path they chose to lead, hopefully it would be a good one. And if it wasn't a good choice then shame on them. Either way it didn't much matter in hindsight.
Focus was the matter neither had much of it. The reels of the gambling machine could tell much. It could tell them that they were passive aggressive. And so much more.
Although this tale is a bit much it reminds me of the day when you did not have to worry about the fallback of wagering. These days it was horrible. As was much in this world.
Sarah didn't have a problem with gambling. She just watched from the sidelines while her husband tried to take control of his problem. She loved him to death, but sometimes it was too much for her to handle. Leaving Paul in a jam was not something she was going to do. She'd work out both of there problems as long as she could. In hindsight this is what couples do.
Mayhap this was going to be the end of it as the suckers' were going to climb the wall in their irritation. Luckily the casino would always be there as a fallback. Winning over everyone's problems in a fortnight.
Thats the end of this tale. Come back to read more and find out if Paul and Sarah have to relive the horror of the mirrors and glamor.
