”I’m scared mommy”, The young boy said to his mother while clutching her tight. “I know son, let’s keep moving so we can find a good spot to stop and rest” The mother replied. Loud whaling and screaming could be heard above ground. There wasn’t many survivors from the meteor blast that completely wiped out Earth. The young boy and mother was able to make it safely to a underground bunker before the Earth went dark. It was going on 8 months for the mother and child as they walked in search of sunlight they were told buy a older man who’s face they couldn’t see crossing paths underground. The mother had a few survival kits that was provided in the bunker before the blast. The kits and boxes of matches for fires. The paths underground had small gas pockets that you could light to create a path. It was literally a shot in the dark to find one without wasting so many matches. The young child and mother felt across the walls with their hands for the gas pockets to light them which was very hard. The ground shook and screams cried out loud again. “What if people are trapped under rocks up there and need help?” The young boy said. “We have to ignore that and keep moving, if we stop and worry about them how are we gonna take care of us and get to safety, stay focused son and keep feeling for those pockets” Mother said very sternly. She was afraid but wouldn’t admit it to her son. “Shhhh stop, do you hear that; someone is close sit down right here under me until they pass” The mother said. She had taught her son how to curl himself under her to avoid someone grabbing him or hurting them. She put her back against the wall and waited for whatever was coming next. She pulled out her weapon ready for war to protect herself and her son. “Just keep on moving” She said loudly. “I’m not a threat, I went blind in the blast and I’ve been looking for help ever since” the older man said. The young boy was able to find a gas pocket while he was knelt down, he strikes the match and another pathway lit up. “You’re not blind you’ve just been in the dark this whole time” The woman told him. He shed tears of joy for knowing he wasn’t really blind. “How did you make that light” The older man asked. “You have to feel on the walls for the pockets and light them with a match” the young boy told the old man. They heard the screaming and whaling again. Fear is the feeling that overcame them. Unaware if something was coming down, in front, or behind them. “Do you have any idea which direction we should be going?” The older man asked the woman. “We’re just walking until we find the sunlight that’s suppose to be the only spot where the blast didn’t hit” She told him. “You guys mind if I tag along” He asked. “We’re gonna rest here for a few before we take off” The woman said. “I’ve been walking so long I don’t know what rest is”. The old man said. “I never thought in a million years I would be living in a underground bunker trail, it’s like the government has known all along that this meteor was coming and made sure we would be able to survive the small restrooms, the tons of matches they provided, water stations, MRE’s. You know I believe they knew this was coming, just give them enough to survive but not enough to let them know we knew” the woman said. The older man was taken back by her wittiness. The mother had been waiting to get a chance to talk to someone other than her son who would understand her. “You have thought this through I see” The older man said. They all sat in a awkward silence thinking about how life was for them at the moment. They all ate a MRE and water from a canteen the mother had filled up for a water station. “Do you really believe there’s sunlight somewhere?” The old man asked. “I don’t know what I believe anymore, we’re gonna just keep moving until we find something” The woman replied to him. “That’s a beautiful necklace you have there” the older man said to the mother. He could see the beautiful heart shape locket shining off the light from the fire. The mother quickly put the necklace inside her shirt. “Thanks it was my moms she gave it to me before she passed” She replied. “Son do you have to use the restroom before we start moving again it’s one a few feet behind us” The mother asked. “No not really” He replied. “Let’s go try anyway before we head out” She told him. They grabbed they’re things and headed to the small restroom. “Just wait here for us, we’ll head out after we’re done” The mother told the old man. He sat back and watched them go into the small restroom. “Okay son listen to me, I’ve been spotted” She told him as she took her necklace off and told him to put it in his bag and never show anyone. The heart shape locket necklace was her key to get into the sunlight. The older man spotted her due to the news reporting that anyone wearing a heart shape locket can pass through into the light and those without had to stay in the dark. BANG! BANG! The old man was banging on the door. His eyes were lit up green. “Just give me the necklace and I’ll let you live” The old man said his voice sounded deep and scary. “When I open this door I want you to strike this match” The mother told her son. She grabbed a spray bottle of gas she was able to get from the gas pockets. She planned to throw it on the old man and wanted her son to strike the match to set him on fire so they could get away. “When I say three strike the match” the mother told the son. He got ready to strike it so he could help his mom get away. “THREE!” She yelled then opened the door the mom threw the gas on and then soon strikes the match setting the old man who was now strong and big with green eyes. His voice whaled and screeched very loud as the gas burned him. He sounded like the screams they heard before. The boy ran as fast as he could. He turned around and looked the old man had grabbed his mom and she couldn’t get away. “RUN AND DON’T LOOK BACK” the mother yelled to her son who was screaming loudly for her. She continued to scream run to the young boy. The fire from the old man lit up every gas pocket in the underground bunker trail. The boy could see more paths and a sign that read “Sunlight this way” he ran until he reached it. When he got there he was asked for his heart shaped locket. He showed it and was now in the light. Only if his mom knew the light was right in front of them. The boy cried and cried. The boy woke up as his mother and the old man was still sitting there talking. “Son do you have to use the restroom before we start moving again, it’s a few feet behind us” That’s the exact way she asked in his dream. “No mom let’s just keep moving forward” The boy answered.
