Brown Paper Power.
The Box
Stepping out into my front yard to check on my Son and my Nephew, who were loudly playing out front as usual but suddenly became eerily quiet after the passing of a delivery truck. The boys are fixated on a package,” boys what’s going on “ I belted to which my Son quickly rushes towards me and say “ look Dad.. it fell off the truck and landed in the yard “.
I grabbed the package and gave it a quick shake to make sure there is nothing broken and gave it back.. “ I’m going to call the delivery company why don’t you two hold on to this in case the driver comes back for it Son “, they both sat down on the stairs and… this happened.
My nephew grabbed the box “ I wonder what’s in it “ he said as he looked closely at the label. “ let’s just take a peak, you know it could’ve got torn open when it fell “ my Son whispers and of course boys being boys they slightly tore open the tucked part of the package. There is a bright silver box inside with writing on it they have never seen. Both boys are completely mesmerized by the glowing writing on the box and can’t help but touch them.. almost like they are drawn to it.
When they touch the box they are both “ zapped “ by a bright blue light. The box tumbles down the stairs and my Son races to grab it and somehow.. he does. Quickly jumping to his feet my nephew shouts “ OH MY GOD “! My Son turns to him and says “ what? “ He points to my Sons feet.. his feet aren’t on the ground. He’s floating there holding the box. “ Oh my god I’m flying “, tumbling through the air trying to gain control finally he managed to stop himself and hold still. My nephew jumps off the stairs right towards my Son and his feet don’t touch the ground either. The boys kinda just float there for a second getting the hang of it slowly circling the yard and going onto the porch and off again. My Son excitedly says “ let’s see how high we can go “ to which my nephew simply nodded ok. Then with a thundering gust of wind they both took off going straight up speeding way above the neighborhood and into the clouds above. The force of them taking off cratered the ground in the yard. They separated and circled each other as they came back down, then broke speed as the ground got closer. The boys flew across the street and between the houses both shifting turns at lead until they found themselves aimed back at the house... and suddenly they were in a race.
Tumbling around each other and tossing the box back and fourth to slow each other down, the boys zipped across the street passing between two trucks before coming to a shard stop just in front of the house. “ BOYS!! “ I belted “ what are you two doing “? They both looked at me from their seats on the steps with a look of wonder on their faces. “ just imagining a couple things Uncle “ my nephew said. The truck pulls up and the boys give the box back to the driver. My son whispers… “ wouldn’t that have been awesome “ as they went back to playing in the yard. They had no clue I could hear them talking through this moment of imagination between them. That little brown paper package gave those boys a moment of pure freedom and thier probably super powers. Who knows...
